Smile How much mods till you void warranty?

Wondering at what point and how many mods can you do to a JK before the dealer will state that you are not going to be covered by the lifetime powertrain warranty?

I mean would a 2.5" BB lift be OK with just bigger wheels and tires?
But a 4+" lift plus suspension/drivetrain mods not be supported? I am not planning on going drastic, just curious at what point they might say, "Hey, this is not stock, we are not going to cover that....."

Anyone have any insight on this? I say this since I didn't know if the new prospective for government backed warranties might include more firm stock-only type of warranty coverage.

Just curious.
Thanks,
Andy

i don't know about jk's but my tj has a 2" bb, discos, t-case drop, aem cold air intake, banks monster cat back, tuff stuff hood rack& rugged ridge tube bumpers. i recently had the warranty work done and had no problems. they had to replace my rear main seal, transmission pan gasket and torque converter. i think it depends on the dealership. my dealership is great and they really fight on behalf of their customers. you should probably call your dealership and ask them what voids it though. they are the ultimate soure on that b/c they are the ones that do the work and submit the warranty forms.

Under the law they have to prove to you that a mod you did caused a failure to a covered part for it not to be covered. Now if you throw a supercharger or a hemi in it then you can guess that the warranty is out the winow. But if you put a 3 inch lift on there and 35's there's no way they can say that messed up your radio that went blank etc.....

^ Exactly. Look at Magnuson Moss act

Any modification will NOT void a part's warranty unless the modified part caused failure/damage to said part.

So if your piston rings weld themselves to the cylinder liners, they can't blame it on your BB If you put on a lift, and you blow driveshafts weekly, yeah, you're on your own

Just be smart, and take off the lift if you ever have issues with driveshafts/U-joints, etc. MArk W.
