How much shock travel do I need?

I switched from stock Sport to Rubi shocks after a 4 to 2dr coil swap. If I unbolt the bottom of the shock and let it decompress, I have 3" of downward travel on a flat surface. Is this enough for going offroad (no rock crawling, but ditches and trails), or do I need shock extensions?

Until your springs begin to unseat plus a bit more if you have retainers.
