How much to ask for my hardtop?

Hi,
I'm wanting to sell the factory hardtop (freedom top) from my 2012 Wrangler sport 2dr. - only a month old, but going to switch to Trektop. Probably put it on Craigslist and maybe ebay.
I haven't seen any for sale, so I don't know what they're going for.
Would be for local pickup only (in the SE-Idaho N-Utah area)- can't see shipping it. Anybody got an idea what I should ask for it?
Thanks.

Bill

Just to give you an idea.. I got rid of my 08 freedom hardtop for a 2dr for 1000, and it was in really scratchy condition with a few chips in the fiberglass. Keep in mind that a new one goes for what...2500 after shipping? Maybe more?

biscot, just make sure you really don't want the hardtop option before you sell it. I like having both. Have you driven with a soft top yet going 70 mph on the highway? It's a lot louder. Does it snow a lot where you are? The soft top can sag a lot under snow (I have heard). Is crime an issue where you live because the soft top takes 3 seconds to break into (unzip)? Soft tops are also harder to keep clean I have found. Just some things to consider. None are that big of a deal. Like I said, I like my soft top, but I think there are occasions and seasons for both.

Thanks RoobyRoo - I am having second thoughts about selling the hardtop, as we do get a pretty good winter here, and I figured out a good way to store it. I'd hate to have to replace it if I changed my mind - maybe I'll wait until after next winter to decide!
(Although I admit I lust after the Wild Boar Fastback Hardtop, if I were ever to buy a hardtop).

Ouch, that's a bundle.
Well, I just put my Trektop on and I'm loving it - I doubt I'll ever want the hardtop back on, so might try a feeler add in Craig's list - I'm thinking more like $1800 would be a fair price.

Have to agree with just about everything that RoobyRoo points.
Was up north in Oct and got in that freak snowstorm. Went out in the morning to find 7 inches of wet heavy snow bowing in the center of my soft top. Actually thinking of replacing with a hard top down the road. Soft tops look like crap if you don't keep up with them and the windows scratch very easily.
I was also diggin' those wild boar fast back hard tops, but after doing some research I found that alot of people had negative issues with them.
You may want to do some investigation before buying one, and they're not cheap either.

damndirtydog,
Thanks for the tip.
I've done a forum search and haven't found any negative comments on the Wild Boar tops, aside from the price tag. Could you be more specific or point me in a direction?
Thanks.

Something about the price of these tops doesn't make sense to me.

I ordered a 12 Sahara 2 dr. It comes with the soft top. I wanted a hard top, which was a $700 option. If I wanted the dual top option, it is an $1,800 option.

If it came with the soft top which is part of the price of vehicle and I paid the $700 extra for the hard top, it seems like with the dual top option, you pay for the soft top twice. Included in the base price and then $1,800 more, including $700 for the hard top.

Makes no sense, IF I am understanding this correctly.

I paid $1325 after tax for a take off at a dealership for my top. This top had never been driven off the lot so I'd say $1300 would be an instant sell for your top. I wouldnt ask more than $1500 tho. It will take too long to sell

I just sold my 2010 JKU hard top to another member for $1100. I priced mine to move it quickly and it was in average condition. I've seen 2door tops go for 900-1500 around here. If its in near new condition, I'd post it for $1400 and be willing to come down $100 or so if you are motivated.

Hope that helps! BTW, I'm running my Trektop full time now too and the differences are minor in my opinion.

For 700 you get just the hard top. So theoretically buying the hard top on its own would cost the full 1,800. When u get just the hard top they are refunding you for the soft top so the difference is 700.

I don't know this for sure but that's how I understand it

Obviously the prices don't really make sense because there is no way that the soft top costs 1100, but idk

Guess I'll be keeping it. Maybe if I don't use it for a couple of years, I'll be willing to take what I can get for it.

Keep the hard top!!! For about $10 you can get ratchet straps and take it off/on by yourself. For $99 you can get an emergency top that fits in a bag under the seat. Once you get 'er off, you'll never want a top til the season ends and you won't have to be disappointed with a soft top going bad on you in just a couple years and having to replace it
