How to make dome light turn off immediately?

How can I make the dome light turn off the moment I close the door? It freaks me out staying on, I've drained the battery countless times by accidentally leaving the light on in my s10.

Not sure this is the correct answer, but I found this in the 2012 user manual searching google:

The lights will fade to off after approximately 30 seconds or they will immediately fade to off once the ignition switch is turned to ON/RUN from the OFF position.
NOTE:
• The front courtesy overhead console and door cour- tesy lights do not turn on if the dimmer control is in the Dome ON position (extreme top position).
• The Illuminated Entry system will not operate if the dimmer control is in the “Dome defeat” position (extreme bottom position).

When a door is open and the interior lights are on, rotating the dimmer control to the extreme bottom posi- tion will cause all the interior lights to turn off. This is also known as the “Party” mode because it allows the doors to stay open for extended periods of time without discharging the vehicle’s battery.

Hope this helps!

I can rotate the dimmer tab to shut off right away.

What is unexplained, is just 'HOW' does that get OUT of the 'off' position? I'm the only driver......
