I'm going to take the doors off my JK for the first time. The problem is I don't know how to store them to prevent them from getting damage or scratched. Would like some input in the matter.
(there are probably some older discussions threads as well - good luck with your project ... hoping to make my purchase soon so I can join everyone in the fun)
I just threw a rug on the floor and lean them against the wall. They aren't going anywhere. They'll see more wear and tear when they are actually attached to your vehicle anyway.
I just place walk mine around to basement walk out(no garage) and put a couple towels on the floor and lean them against the wall as well, no issues yet.
I am fortunate to have abundant wall-space available to me.
I use two ladder hooks from walmart for each door.....runs about $7 per pair.
Each hook has about 6" of pipe insulation on it....about $6 for an 8' joint leaves plenty of scrap to add to your misc junk supply.
padding and weight distribution ( hooks are about 15" spread ) and I've never had an issue.
In my last house, I didnt have wall space....so I used a similar idea with ladder hooks suspended from the ceiling....no problems.
My very first few experiences with door storage, I did as mentioned earlier and simply put a towel on the ground and leaned them against the wall. Decided I didnt like to bend that low (cuz Im lazy) and was nervous about the risk of them falling over.
Pretty much any method works.
The only thing I learned that is an absolute :
It is absolutely necessary to have your plan....BEFORE you are standing there with a door in you hands wondering "well now what..."
I was going to get the Lange hangers but wound up just getting hanger hooks from Lowe's that were cheaper. That give me more money to spend on the jeep!
