I am gettig really good MPG...

Just filled up. Went 212 miles and it took 12 gallons. 17.5 MPG. This is all running around town and very, very little freeway driving.

Now some of that does come from having the stock 225/70 16's AT/AW street tires on.

Less that about 60 miles freeway and mostly driving up and down San Timoteo Canyon chasing train for pics. Remember I had hand surgery on Jan 11 and can't do much so taking pics of trains is one thing I like to do. There is also some 4X4ing too cuz..well it rained and the roads mudded up.

Not bad!!!

I've been getting between 19.5 & 20 mpg with the 245/75/16's. Which I think is great. It is a combination of in town & highway.

I had a chance over christmas break to drive my uncle's '07 X S-package manual to and from our cabin in northern MN (the reason why I'm looking at purchasing a Jeep when I FINALLY graduate) and experienced the same thing. Got better mileage than most people here seem to be reporting.

It's funny...I joined this forum to get owner opinions of whether a Jeep was a good fit for me and the things I do, and meantime my uncle goes and gets exactly the vehicle I was eying, for the exact reasons I was eying it. Looks like Jeep is going to have another happy customer (ME!) in a year or so.

I was very happy with it, loved the simple interior and exterior (finally something that's not over-designed!), was impressed by how well the soft-top held heat in the sub-zero temperatures, and the freaking thing went right over the foot and a half of snow that covered the gravel driveway into our property, letting me get to our snowblower and clear a path for my dad. His 4x4 truck got hopelessly stuck and I had to pull him out.

The ride was exactly what I like. Stiff, let you know when you were getting past the grip-capabilities of the vehicle with a little bit of head-toss and shuttering, but not a drag on the 140 mile highway hike. Sound system was EXCELLENT and my iPod made the trip up and back a blast.

I averaged just over 19mpg, with most of it being highway, and the rest 35mph cruising over bumpy, poorly plowed gravel roads. I especially like how the engine let me use very low RPM's without lugging.

Just drove my 2008 Wrangler X, (3.8, V6, 6-Speed Manual) from Connecticut to Fort Meyers, Florida and back (got back yesterday), and my "Miles Per Gallon" (shown in the display on the dash), showed me between 24.2 - 25.2 mpg!!!

Now THAT'S great mileage!!

Since I am the OP I guess I can go OT!!!

Have you ever tried www.railpictures.net ? I don't know if they allow linking or not.

I just started and have a lower end camera. Not one of those cheapo ones that are thin but it is a Sony MV CD-500 that is 4+ years old. I need a better camera that takes better pics. It does o.k. for now that and I am still in the learning curve on proper lighting techniques.

P.M. your e-mail and I'll send one or 2 of my favorites.
