I fell in love with the hardtop BUT...

I want something in the summer i can have just in case it rains and I have the hard top off. I never thought I would love my hardtop as much as i do. My 2007 only had a soft top so I never experienced the quieter ride, and sleeker look. Now when I look at the Jeeps I prefer the look of the hard top or no top at all. Is there a product that I can purchase that offers sun or rain protection versus putting on my soft top in the summertime? I saw the bikini tops but they do not fit 2011 JKU's yet.

I am waiting on the new Trektop NX that suppose to be released hopefully by June for the JK's I would think they would have the 11 by then too. I like it because you can change it up. You can have full cover or fold the front half for sunroof or remove sides to leave a bikini top. Supposed to be a lot better then the old Trektop if they ever get it released.

If they push it back again, I think that I will get the bikini, windjammer, duster combo.

I'd suggest getting the trail cover. That's what I'll be getting soon when it warms up and my hard top comes off. I can't wait! The top on my jeep is just soo boring!

No you can not. It you want something that you can take off and put on easily, that would be the trektop by bestop. It takes some time putting on, so if you were to be caught in a rain storm, it would take a little time for you to put it on. The reason why I want a trail cover is because I only plan on using it over night and during raining days.

That one says that it can only be used for short, low speed trips.

It seems all the windows are covered...? For the sake of maybe getting a traffic ticket, check to see if that is legal in you area maybe? :/

LOL, but in all seriousness....is there a soft top option that just covers you for a quick rain where I dont have to have rails set up etc. I just want to be able to take the hard top off with a hoist and ride and if it starts to rain while driving i can just use the roll cage bars to cover the occupants from rain. If not I might as well just put on the soft top for the summer. But I dont like the framing of the soft top look, I like the look with no top and no frame rails etc. I guess I may be asking too much.

It looks like the pavement ends emergency top is just what your looking for. It looks like you can just throw it on in a pinch and it will cover it fairly well.

The Pavement Ends emergency top is really designed to get you off a trail when you get caught in a sudden downpour. I don't think it should be considered as an "inexpensive top" alternative. I wouldn't drive far or fast with it on. I do think it's a clever product though, I just think it has limits.

You might be better off looking into a full length Bikini-style top, ESPECIALLY if you have door surrounds. (Bikini tops are designed to also fit without the surrounds, but they won't be nearly as weather tight). All the Bestop 2010 models will fit a 2011, and I assume the same is true for models from other companies).

Fine print:
Bikini is ® by Bestop. (I need to say this: you don't).
Pavement Ends is a sister company of Bestop's, so don't think I'm just slagging the competition here.

Hey Geoff, what is the deal with the Trektop NX? I know your website is showing it but I can't find it at any online dealers. Interested in it for my 4dr JKU, 2011.

I use the Besttop trail cover 81040-09 but used 1/2" spacers to lower the sound bar down for an easier fit.

Exclamation transmission swap

Hey everyone,

I just got a 08 wrangler X with an automatic transmission. I was hoping to change the transmission over to a 6-speed. Does anyone know about the process and pricing they could help me out with.

Thanks

Boosta,
I'm in the same predicament. I will be purchasing the Bestop Header Safari as well as the Bestop Duster Deck, and maybe...the Duster Deck extension.

I live in South Florida so I have downpours in the afternoon. I may stow the hard for the summer and leave the header w/duster deck for the summer. This gives me overhead and protection for the back. Even with just the 2 Freedom Panels front, along with the Deck cover and extension, it will afford some cover. I'll mix it up for trial and error.

This is a solution for me as I also have a garage. I know things will get wet with this setup, but then again I have the great sun dryer .. as well.

You should post this as a completely different thread because more people can help you if they are looking for your issue. Just a suggestion.

I have both tops, soft top is almost always down in summer, I check the forecast every morning, if it rains or they predict rain i put it back up (takes me about 6 minutes by myself) and If I leave home on a sunny morning and it ends up raining I run to my Jeep when the sky gets dark and put the top back on without the rear windows and the back just gets a little wet but it dries amazingly fast.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'll have to research options for my 2007. In Seattle you can't trust the seasons... summer it rains so much I won't feel secure taking my hard top off without something to throw on in case the weather shifts.
