I got a leaky one :(

Got the new Jeep(2011 Unlimited Sahara) on the 16th. on the 23rd I went to the garage to vacuum it out real quick and found wet floors, both sides but mostly on the passenger side. We had taken the two front tops out for about an hour on the 17th so I thought maybe we didn't put them back in quite right.

Rain all this week, i pulled the Jeep in the garage(we have a shop for our hotrods but not a regular garage for everyday vehicles) and took the two tops off and put them back on. Parked it back in the driveway but it didn't rain again. Had it at the dealer today so they could fix the wiring harness they installed and asked them to check for leaks.

Sure enough it failed the leak test, roof seal leaks. They have to order it and suggested I "keep it somewhere dry when it rains" lol. I really don't want to put my Opel GT out in the rain but I probably will. I hope they don't take forever getting the seal. They told me there was a service bulletin and I told them "I know, already looked it up". They were quite impressed with that, lol.

Did most people who had leaks have it come from the roof seal? I know it is that because I actually saw it dripping while it was raining on the passenger side.

First 08 JKU Sahara freedom panels leaked, several attempts to fix, then was replaced with my 08 JKU Rubicon. That is the one that I have now. It leaked twice in the same place. They fixed it and now three years later, still no leaks. Chrysler made me a satisfied customer. It took work though. On both sides of the equation.

The dealer I bought from has their service area wall covered with customer testimonies, some handwritten, from very satisfied customers and they are always very polite and make sure you leave happy. Since I knew from this forum that some leaked, I was not super upset and am more than willing to give them a chance to fix it.

Willee51, I have not seen the actual service bulletin online, but read posts by some others who have said they were told about the service bulletin by their dealer just like I was. And just to clarify, I have a 2011, not a 2012 so I don't know that any of the 2012's leak.

My leak was coming from the soft top just above the overhead speakers. The seam looked like it was stitched tight but apparently it was loose. Dealership put a new soft top on and it hasnít leaked since. Itís only been two weeks and no rain, so hopefully itís good.

Have a 2011 unlimited, going on my fourth week of my first ever jeep. My leak is from the bottom of the front passenger door. Going to the dealer on Mon. I did a water test and could see the water pouring in. I hope they have the fix. I know you might expect to see a bit of water at times due to circumstances but this is not acceptable.

They have something in the system to address it. I have a 2011 JKU purchased in March. Never had a leak with the soft top or the hard top.

Took the Jeep in yesterday for some service, they replaced the entire passenger door seal, completely on their own. I brought it in for an oil change and asked them to fix my uconnect module.

I was wondering why they had kept it all [bleep]ing day until I saw the service ticket.

I have a soft top and had some leak issues. Dealer fixed em for me and it has been done since. Soft tops are cheap enough to buy a new one if your having issues.

I like the hard top look better but the ease of taking down the top with the soft is awesome.

Sounds good, I'll mention to them when I drop it off. Sometimes the dealers are at a loss to come up with a fix, however I do see that this seems to be a significant problem. I'm sure a recall will be in order soon.

$1600.00 in 2008 dollars is cheap?

Gulp, hope nothing bad happens to my soft top.

2011 Sahara

Mine goes in Monday (again!) for the same issue. I have lots of pictures to show them exactly where the leak is. What I am seeing is the water comes in at the top and travels down the seal track and comes out at the front bottom of the door. Then leaks down the plastic into the carpet.

First time, they sort of forgot to tell me they have to send the Jeep to a body shop for leak analysis. WHY?

I feel that sometimes it gets to a point where we need to just remove the carpets and open the plugs for good.

My dealership is (up to now) first class. At my first oil change @ 1000 miles, they changed the passenger door seal, without my reporting any leaks. I later brought it in for a roof leak and they replaced the seal in and around the tee-top to door interface. (does that make sense?). Anyway this stopped the leak and I am very very satisified.

Also, Somerset Chrysler/Jeep, Somerset MA., worked on my JK for 45 minutes to try and install the Bestop uderseat lock box I had purchased and NEVER charged me for the work! I was impressed. To date I am finding Jeep service to be superior to Volvo! And I thought Volvo was good.

Agreed. Not bad. I would have to check out the quality though.

I have a 92 that is bedlined. When water gets in (notice I didn't say if) I just pull the plugs and let drain. This is where my 08 is headed; to be bedlined and carpets removed.

I would call this a good call for your dealership and better for you. If my dealer did that, I would be satisfied that my jeep is getting the best care possible. Body shops know more about fit and finish, in my opinion, than a dealer crew would. Hope it works out well for you.

Are leaks more prevalent when you take off your doors and door surrounds frenquently?

45 minutes to install the bestop under seat locking box?? That is seriously a 10 minute job. I did 2 of them last week and I am not mechanically inclined at all. Cool that they did it for free for you without a doubt though but it probably took them 3 or 4 minutes with air tools.

He said try to install. He probably has the flip top seat and it doesn't fit even though they tried for 45 minutes.

FWIW, I might have to break the thumbs of any mechanic that used air tools inside any of my vehicles.

Went to the dealer, they installed a modified neopream self adhesive strip on inside of the door on the pillar. My guess is that this part is ment to be some type of water diverter. Well, had our first rain since the last incident, and quess what it still leaks. Will be bringing it back in on Monday. In my opinion the type of "fix" that they are subscribing to will only be a temp fix even if it does work. The method being utilized will not be durable.

2011 JK in currently at the dealer for leaking issues. This is the thirs trip. Got sick of it and told them to keep it until they get it right (sigh). Informed them if I get it back and still leaking I will have to seek further action. Every time the dealer says they find the leak they fix it and test it. Unfortunately, and another leak springs up 'somewhere'. Last word (today) was that more seals have been ordered and it should fix the problem.

It is unfortunate that wrangler owners do not start a class action against Chrysler for these continual issues. All I keep hearing (even from the dealer) is that all jeeps leak at some point. Yours leaks early.

The dealer is absolutely right. But what they said is a deflection tactic for what is really happening. You want your brand new 30K dollar jeep to be leak free out of the chute. And rightfully so. So you are allowing the dealer to make it right. Like I did, before they bought it back and delivered a new one to me that leaked in the exact same spot. Which on the second attempt on the replacement jeep they fixed it. And it hasn't leaked since and it has been three years with lots of use with both tops. It took a lot of patience but I am a satisfied customer. If it leaks now, it is out of warranty and it will fall to me to fix it. I think I will do a better job than what was done to my jeep under warranty when leaks show up. Time will tell.

BTW, my dealer was awesome through the whole process. That helps.

update

Took the Jeep in to get the roof seals replaced last Thursday. When they brought it back out they said it was "way better" but still leaked. They ordered weather stripping and said to bring it back Monday. I am not sure how they are deciding it is WAY better. I think it is leaking WAY worse.

We had a solid week of rain before they got the seals in. I went out every 2 or 3 days and used the wet/dry vac to clean out the water. Really just dampness on passenger side. We had 3 days of rain after they replaced the seal and I have almost standing water on the passenger side.

I also got into them about paperwork. I asked for an invoice for the service visit last time and the tech said there was no paperwork since they were still working on the issue. I emailed the Service Manager later to explain I hadn't gotten paperwork and it wasn't listed in my online service history at Jeep.com either and while I was SURE they would fix my Jeep I wanted documentation in case there was a problem later.

They called and emailed and mailed me service docs. But it still doesnt' show up on Jeep.com. Mondays visit will be #2. I am trying to be patient but with a week or more between visits and rain, rain, rain I am losing my patience.

I'll give you my update. 58 days since purchased and it has spent 18 days and counting at the service department. My certified letter to Chrysler arrived yesterday. They have 29 days left to fix it before its legally a lemon. Starting think my wife was right, should have bought a Subaru.

Left it at the dealer on Mon, got a call the next day to say I was ready to go, all fixed. It happened to be raining that day so I told the dealer I would leave it there overnight so they could check it out in the morning. I stopped by in the afternoon to check myself, and guess what, you guessed it!!! a puddle of water. So now they replaced the door gasket and said they adjusted the door along with some other tweaks. Now I sit and wait and see what the next rain brings. Hope you all have better luck..

Okay, took it in today, was there for an hour. They changed the passenger door weather stripping. It did rain last night, right after I drug the wet/dry vac out and sucked all the water out from the 3 days of raining prior. This morning the driver's side was dry and the passenger side was damp. I will have to wet/dry vac it again and then wait for rain but they said it passed the water test. Hopefully it is fixed.

They told me I had a big chip in my windshield and asked did I have 10 minutes for them to fill it. I have tried the fills twice and they were awful both times. I will either wait and replace the whole windshield or look for someone who does NOT drill a hole to fill it. I have full coverage/0 deductible for glass.
