I killed my sway bar..... go figure.

A little back story first.

Went on a wheeling trip yesterday with a new group yesterday. The club pulled up to the rock garden that is pretty tame and I tryed to talk on of the guys into doing it since he had never done a rock garden. To prove to him how easy it was I did it with open diffs and with the sway bar connected.

Now jump to today an I am coming off of a Y in the road doing 75 when all the sudden my sway bar unlocks and the front driver side suspension dropped all the way with body roll (I have quite a bit of down travel) causing me to swing across two lanes and the median to about 5 feet of the first lane of on coming traffic before I get it under control. Needless to say it was quite hairy and not fun at all and wouldn't wish t on anyone.

The sway bar light is blinking all the time and I can't get the bar to lock back up, I will pull a link off tomorrow and see if I can't get it to lock up somehow. My guess is the guts are shot. Time for another upgrade I guess.

Are you going to fix it or try one of the Currie Antirock set ups?

Glad to hear it turned out ok.

Wow! Good recovery on your part! That's got to be an unnerving surprise! Talk about catastrophic failure!

Look forward to reading your postmortem on the 'guts'....

Man that sucks... look into this if you're looking for a cheaper option than repairing or replacing. https://www.offroadevolution.com/sto...d=EVO-NOLIMITS

I highly dought I will go with an Antirock. I am almost positive I can have one built that will behave a lot better then they do.

After this experience I doubt if he would cheap out at the risk of having that happen again.

A friend of mine had his sway bar do the same thing after a wheeling trip. He opened it up, cleaned it out really well and lubed it. Works perfectly now. You may want to to start there, costs nothing but some time and grease.

if you do ill take one too

there is writeup somewhere on how to do that evo kit without paying their price.

but it sounds like yours is stripped internal instead of the electronics being jacked up

Droped the other unit and split the case. All the spline are intact, the issue was that the plunger that holds it in the unlock position had somehow activated and was stuck in that position. A few taps of a hammer and it freed up. Going to go ahead and delete the electronics since I dont care to have anything like this happen again.

For sure. I would have never dreamed that it would fail in a way to make it come unlocked going down the road.

Now this and some slightly-broken take-off Rubi parts would be a nice addition to a Sport or Sahara...
