Different tires are more prone to allowing the static charge to build up. This is why there is a thing at the gas stations asking you to discharge the built up energy before you insert the gas nozzle (gas vapors + spark = KFB!) That being said, Mythbusters tackled it on an episode and didn't find it to be a significant issue.

I have had vehicles that didn't shock me start when I replaced the tires. When that set burned through and was replaced, it went back to not shocking me. Unfortunately they do not include an electrical hazard rating on the tires...

Happens all the time, mainly in winter wearing fleece. Usually back of the fist against the window to shut the door, otherwise Static Guard sprayed on the seat or rub a dryer sheet on the seat.

Happens all the time when humidity drops here in central TX. Not as often I like. Not that I enjoy the shock (and not that I don't).

Funny thing is I was talking about this very issue today at work.

My Jeep has nothing on me when it comes to mud!
