I love my Jeep, but-- anyone else getting shocked

Hi, I absolutly love my 1st JEEP!.. . however, everytime I get out- I get shocked... . I have rubber(Mopar) floor mats.. I dont get it...

It is starting to get aggrevating, does anyone know - if its the mats, seats, or just me

Happens to me EVERY time I get out and reach my door to close it. My trick, touch your key to the door first and watch the purple pop.

Guess you gotta be tough to drive a jeep. Electric shock therapy is a little much though.

It's static electricity. As temps drop and humidity levels drop, your vehicle (whatever it is), generates more static electricity as you drive down the road. Ever notice that you don't get shocked on cold, rainy (snowy) days? Or hot, humid days? Or that you don't actually get shocked until your foot hits the ground?

Then you're grounded and all the static electricity is looking for the fastest way to ground. That would be you. Can't get there through the rubber tires.

Also, while the key trick works, I wouldn't use my Jeep fob. Might disrupt the factory programming. Who knows what that could do.

I have learned to hold on to the metal part of the top or back of the door when I get out. It doesn't hurt near as bad if you don't have a distance between you and the metal for the flash point.

I have the round step on the side of my Wrangler. If I forget to hold on to the door, I tend to get a pretty good jolt on the back of my leg as I exit the drivers seat.

Try spraying some static guard on the seats and carpet.

You can use it on your laundry. When you take sweaters out of the dryer sometimes they have static you just spray and your good to go. Around the laundry stuff at the store.

Hang a rubber grounding strip from your Jeeps frame. I should touch the ground. Tabber02 has some pics that will demonstrate.

I try to make it a point to only touch plastic as I exit, but sometimes I'm in a hurry and it rocks my world.

Usually happens on my way into work. Thinking about the day ahead, and go to shut the door. Then all heck breaks loose. It is a bright flash at 0630.

No that I think about it, this used to happen all the time on my truck. Hasn't happened on my jeep. Or maybe I just got used to closing the door with my elbow.

I think you can get it at lowes. My contractor buddy gets it there for keeping a certain material he cuts from sticking to him and his workers.

It's winter time, dryer air. Happens to me every winter, usually stops sometime in the spring.

When the temps dip up here the humidity gets way low. Under 10%. You should see my collie when she gets up from her microfiber bed. I swear you could power new york city with the energy created.

Just be very careful when at the gas pumps. That simple little static spark is enough to light any gas fumes and get a pretty decent fireball going in your immediate vicinity!!

Here's one to flush out the old timers....

Carry a "Zerostat" with you!

If you know what that is, I need some refill for my 'discwasher'....

The discwasher dried up years ago, but I think I still have the zerostat in the box of albums.
