I need a winch!

Im looking for a strong durable winch that will be reliable in almost any situation, but I do not need to spend 1000 on the 15k lb super duty Warn winch. Ive been looking closely at the Smittybilt X2O-10 Winch. Ive read pretty good reviews, and noticed it has an IP68 waterproof rating. Without a doubt Ill be using a steal cable, but other than that Im not sure If im over looking anything. Any thoughts are appreicated.

It might be worth noting I have an LOD offroad shorty front bumper with winch plate on the front end.

There are about a million threads on this topic and opinions vary

When I was deciding, I went with the engo 10k synthetic. Engo has a very good reputation (seems to be right up there with warn), the price was good, and I went synthetic for safety and weight.

I put the X20 10K competition on mine. I wanted waterproof and synthetic.

I have used it several times and don't regret it.

Anyone used the Quadratec winches? I've heard bad things about Smittybilt products in regards to winches.

I can tell you that I have never heard a good thing about Smittybilt anything here locally when I actually talk to people. So I will never buy anything made by them. I'd look at Engo or maybe Superwinch. I will only buy WARN, but they probably start at $600. I have a Zeon 8S. That is not a budget winch.

Its funny how regionally things are different.

Most of the people running Warn down here do it for the look. Most people I know who actually use their winches on a regular basis get Smittybilts. They seem to be holding up better than a lot of the Warns.

my smitty ran great for 2 years until i swapped it for an engo. as far as i know its still running great. i like the ease of unspooling on the engo alot better.

I dont get brand envy and im not a fan boy of anything but jeep.
if its a quality product ill endorce it but not because its got a popular name on it. warns entry level winches shit out and are made in china too. why pay more for a logo.

My smitty xrc8 lasted the whole time on my last jeep and i used it often, Only problem with it was the ball pin and spring rusted in the lever and it wouldn't move. I called smitty and they sent me parts for free, once i put them in it worked better and never had the problem again. Only complain about, it was kind of slow compared my super winch now and they could have greased it better.
I'm running a superwinch EPi9 now and it has impressed me so far. I have used it plenty to get myself out and others and dont have one complaint so far (besides free spool being tough)
I'm no expert on winches just going with what I used/ what people I know used. The smittybuilt never failed me when I needed it and i got for $250 so that was a win for me. I do like my superwinch much better so far though, a lot faster and so far more reliable.

I have an XRC8 and it works great. Most of the folks I wheel with have the same winch and they haven't had any problems.

The Smittybilt X20-10 Winch is a good winch for the price. Smittybilt has been around for a while and if you do some searching you'll find a lot of threads where people love them and a lot of threads where people use them as door stops in their garages.

Engo Winches have a good reputation but they haven't been around for too long. Time will tell how they hold up in the long run, but you'll find some good reviews on them so far. Let me know if you have any questions at all or if you decide on a winch and I'll get you a quote.

I know you don't want to spend a ton but as a pervious poster said, the Superwingch Epi9.0S is a great winch. I have one for sale in the for sale section that has never been used and is still in the box. I am willing to negotiate a little if you take a look at the linked for sale thread and are interested. May not be what you are looking for but thought I'd throw that out there. I make my way up from Nashville to Chicago fairly often to visit soon to be in-laws so not sure where in IL you are but could take it with us on a trip to meet up.
