I need Lockable storage in a 2011

I've got a 2011 Sport "S" that has (I think) the newer drivers seat. At least thats what I have been told. I purchased a 'Bestop' underseat lock box to keep my pistol in only to find it will NOT fit under the seat without doing seat modes.(ie spacers)
I do not want to do that so back it goes (great looking product BTW--very well built). Anyway. Other than raising the drivers seat, does anyone have an idea of a good way to store a pistol (legally)? The 'glovebox' looks like childs play and I would not trust that for a firearm storage.....

I spoke with Bestop' and they were perplexed as was Quadratec but both were aware of this happenning in later 2011's. (great folks at both ends). I really hate to give up the Bestop box as its rugged and looks perfect...just won;t fit....thanks,

cu in oz, I don't mean to sound smartass, but you should NOT leave a pistol or any other firearm in a vehicle. There is no safe way to store a firearm in a vehicle.

If the vehicle is stolen, so is the firearm, whether it's in a safebox or not.

When you leave the vehicle the firearm should be in your possession.

How difficult is the under seat plate to remove and how do you get to it. MUCH appreciated.

PAV I agree but in some short circumstances I would like to. Also there are other items I would like to leave , phone, camera etc....agreed on the firearm but several places you can;t carry in.

On my '12, I removed the wiring bracket under my rubicon's seat and it fit.
My '10 doesn't have the bracket, I have not fitted another Bestop box to it. Ill do that next week.

Yeah, I don't like leaving a gun in a vehicle either, but sometimes life isn't always simple. I have a CCW and carry daily. I've also been unexpectedly called to pick kids up at school or go into a non-carry zone.

Unexpected stuff, that's why I got my CCW, that's why I bought the box.

Edit: Comes out with a Torx screwdriver, real easy, don't need to remove seat or anything.

In Ca. a handgun has to be in firearm certified/lockable case--SEPERATE FROM AMMO and ammo has to be locked in seperate container/glove box(lockable)-

This is a good one (without ammo)-Cabellas !

Off-road--I carry one of my 1911s in the sunvisor

Off-road there's a lotta reasons to carry a firearm Locked & Loaded !

If you have "slide and tumble" drivers seat, only major mods will allow you to install the box. If it's just the wiring bracket in the way, it's easy to remove as others have said.

If you can fit a box, you might be a little disappointed in the Bestop. It only opens about 1/2 way making getting to your firearm, and anything that rolls back in the box, less than perfect. The more expensive Tuffy security box opens wide for full access and is better, IMO. (I have a Bestop)

It's easy to remove the plate. I did it. It is held in place by 2 torx thingys. They are a bit awkward to get to, but if I can do it, you can. Then just jimmy the box in under the front seat legs, re-tighten the legs... position the wire out of the way so when you slide the seat forward and back you don't pull on it (it has to do with the air bag deploying if the seat is jerked on (accident) I think.
I use it to transport my pistol when I'm in CA.... Utah it's easy... CCW. Grumble grumble...

When you find something let us know!!
From what I've read there is a difference between the 2dr front seat and the 4dr....in other threads I've also read about just removing the plate and moving the wiring harness, unfortunately that won't work for my 2dr I ended up getting a locking gun case with a cable....I don't need to store a firearm but I would like to be able to have a touch of security when I go to the gym etc.....
