I Need The Opinion of The Wrangler Community

I'm a little over a year from getting a Wrangler but I can't stop thinking about it. I already know I am going to get a 3" lift and 35" tires and use it for moderate to heavy off-roading. But where I need your help is deciding on the initial setup from the dealer.

I'm going for the Rubicon Unlimited in any variation of red that they have at that time. I know I want the hard top for winter use and will eventually get a soft top for summer use. The way I see it I have 4 combinations for the hard top and fenders flares.

#1:
The standard black hard top and black flares

#2:
Body color hard top and black flares

#3:
Body color hard top and body color flares

#4:
Black hard top and body color flares

I'm personally leaning towards #3 with all the same color figuring go big or go home, but I wanted opinions.

Ready...set...go...

Why would you get painted flares of your gonna wheel it??? Or even a colored harptop. Unless your wheeling in the desert. Doesn't make sense to me. Thats the first thing that'll make your rig look like crap. I say 100% #1

If you are going to get the body color hardtop, might as well get the dual top group. If you get ONLY the hardtop you do not get the hardware that supports the soft top. Might as well get it all at the same time.

As for hardtop, I went with body color on both the hardtop and the flares. Gives it a more uniform appearance but I believe there are downsides to the black flares and the painted flares.

Painted = more easily scratched from wheelin'

Black = they fade, seem to "stain" easy from mud etc...

At the end of the day, I like the all painted look.

Tough call.

I really like the color matched deals (fenders and hard top). If I ever got one, I'd get the dual top option though.

I did notice that getting mud off the top of the soft top is kind of a pain in the ass, same with getting it out of the surface of the plastic fenders. Not a big deal though really. Whatever you get will probably get some trail rash on it eventually.

Did you buy it from the Van Nuys Jeep dealer?

I got option 3, all painted. If I had to do over? Painted hardtop and regular/plain fenders. My rear fenders have gotten scratched to hell from people getting in and out of the back seat and dragging jeans buttons and such across the paint. Not on purpose, but it happens. And yes, they get scratched up wheeling as well.

Just be prepped for it to happen.

Depends on your plans for usage!
For Mall crawling and general on highway, I like the looks of all painted.
If you plan on using it off road, then I would stay with the black top and black fenders. It won't scratch as easy and just fits in better!

Personally, don't let anybody influence you, but rather take your time and look them all over and then make your own decision and be happy with it...............
They are all Wranglers and will look great either way............

I like 3. The plastic just does not look right. Agreed on the dual top group. I wish I had chosen that option personally. A soft top is likely in my future but too many other mods ahead of it - like a winch, 17 x 9's & some Duratracs when the 18's wear out.

X2, If you are like most of use, then you will want to run it off highway at times, so #1 is your best choice and it will still look great!

If I remermber correctly, option #4 isn't available on the Rubi anyway. To get the option of painted flares on the Rubi, you must order the painted top.

I have option #4 in silver, and am fine with that because I take my top off a lot, along with the doors. My silver fenders are soon to be black flat fenders anyway. If I had to do it all over again I would go with option #3. I plan to do every accessory and add on in black, leaving only the body and doors silver (When I don't have the tube doors on). But with the top on, I'd like it to be the same color as the body because it looks cleaner, classier, and just cooler (just my opinion).. And when I'm off road, and having fun, the top is off anyway.. But, like many others have said, it's a jeep, and its going to be cool no matter what option you go with.

I have option #4 as well...but we both have Sahara's...which come with painted fenders.

I love the look with the top on...very clean and sophisticated.

I think the Moab is the only version that you could get black fenders with a panted top from the factory.

I think the look also depends on what color Jeep you get. Some colors look better with contrast, some look beter in a monochromatic scheme.

Option 3 here, but I'm biased. I wanted painted top and fenders and still love the way it looks.

Painted flares to me screams poser, mall crawler, should have bought a civic'er

Its a jeep. If used as intended the top and fenders will have scratches. If you like scratches on painted parts then go for it. I would have gotten my jeep in clear coated bare metal if I could have.

Rubi= black flares and top. They shouldn't sell em any other way.

Just my $6.54

Myself, I bought my rig with the idea to make the ultimate hunting machine. I've probably got all kinds of plans for mine that some would balk and call blasphemy on. Point is, go with what YOU want. That's the great part of it. To use it like you want, 1 is your most practical option, but if any of the other 3 tickle your fancy, go for it. There are pros and cons to every option thrown out. The main thing is get the look you want because I don't know about the rest of the conversation, but I'm not signing the check for it.

It's all in who you are, and what you want.. The Jeep is the most accessorized vehicle in the world, which in part also makes it the coolest vehicle in the world. The options are endless.. You can do whatever you want to do.. You're always going to have fellow Jeep brothers and sisters that say you should strip the paint off of it, rhino line the inside, and drive over every fallen tree, and over every rock, through monsoons. Bang it up, roll it on its side, and that's a true Jeep. And don't get me wrong, because I think all of that is awesome.. but the truth of the matter is most of the population use their brand new Jeeps for both Mall Crawling, and Wheeling. No matter what you do you will always have some that like it, and some that don't. Just remember you can make it like you want it, and use it for what you want, and it'll still be cool because its an American made Jeep.. That's badass.. Which makes you a badass.. In America.. Just an American badass, driving a badass Jeep!!!

Well I feel like the discussion is pointless now. Who knows what will be going on in a year or two. Maybe the next model will only come with a painted top. Maybe the top wont even be removable! For what it is worth I went painted top black fenders as they were getting replaced anyway...

I agree, best and probably cheaper to go Dual Top Group

It's YOUR Jeep, it's all about what YOU want!

But as for me and my Jeep.
I like the Black Fenders and Hard Top

Thank you for all the feedback, I enjoyed reading all of the replies and everyone's opinion. At least I have plenty of time to think about exactly what I want. I do think I will heed the advice of doing the dual top group. When I eventually get it I will be sure to post pictures along with the giant smile on my face.

Option #1.

I prefer the look. Also, the money you don't spend on paint, you can put towards other mods.

Lastly, are you thinking about flat flares, or any other change? If so, you wouldn't want to waste the money painting something you're going to replace,

I have seen several jeeps with painted fenders that have paint chips from gravel etc... While they look good in many of the colors maintenance may not be worth it, at least not to me.
