I now know what JK stands for!

Junebug killer.

And killer of any insect, for that matter. I've put 1,500 miles from South Carolina to Colorado in the last 3 days, and have killed over 1500 bugs easily. Lights, grille, windshield, bumper...all covered in bug guts!

Don't worry, the pictures will come!

That's very poor BPM for this time of year.

Great trip, but

Those aren't bugs, they're just little TJ's that wouldn't wave back !!

wd-40 will get that off.. when you actually want to clean it that is... probably not your first priority..

I still have another 1,300 miles to go, so cleaning won't happen until the trip is over most probably

That's what I figured. I used to kill those things in the Arkansas soy bean fields driving from Memphis to Bald Knob on my way from Georgia to Searcy... NASTY.

Based on those pictures I would agree that you have underestimated the BPM on the trip.

I have had some serious splats on the windshield that were just super difficult to get off. Bugs in the North East seem to really stick to the jeep.

Bug and tar remover is only moderately effective at getting the sticky stuff off. Still requires a lot of elbow grease.

It is safe for metal, rubber, wood and plastic.

I saw the bug removal tip as one of their uses on a tv add, and then saw it once in Peterson's 4 wheel and Off Road mag.

Official List of 2000+ Uses for WD-40

So is the clear coat considered plastic? Safe for use with WD 40? And in the mean time, I have to follow your link.

The removes paint statement at the beginning is worrisome. Maybe they mean latex paint?

It does say: Removes adhesive tape without damaging factory paint

I've been using it since I was 16 and have never had a problem.. My first job was detailing cars when I was 15 until I graduated high school and it worked well on filthy repos with bugs. I always used at will on chrome bumpers etc. I've used it a bunch on my Jeep grill (and all my other previous cars). Now when the clear coat starts getting low, I'm not sure what their stance is on that. But like I said.. I've never had problems. It works well, but it's a personal choice.

I would say that is a pretty good endorsement on the safeness on automobile paint finishes. I know that ammonia is definitely a no-no. That stuff will dissolve the surface of plastic. You dis say you use it on the painted surfaces, right? The grill is all plastic but it is still a painted surface.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to give it a whirl. Anything that makes it easier to get bugs and tar off without damaging the finish is good by me. Most of the tar and bug removers that I have used do smell oil based and I think WD 40 is oil based.

I'd say put some on a rag and take your finger to a spot and see it if you're unsure..

I carry papertowels and window cleaner with me at all times...part of my emergency pack. I was out with my dad when I first got my jeep, it was evening, and we went through what seemed to be a blizzard of bugs. Those things were plastered all over the windshield and we could barely see. We got a good chuckle out of it, pulled into a gas station and then he showed me how the pros clean windshields. He grew up with his dad owning a garage and service station and he spent his youth cleaning windshields. I was surprised when he first wanted a ride in my jeep, he is usually pretty opinionated about what cars he will drive/ride in (like I said, grew up working on cars, servicing cars, selling cars, now works for NASCAR) but he was like a little kid giggling the whole time. He's 70 and I'm 40 and it's the first time in my life I've seen him act like that. Another cool reason to own a jeep.
