I s*ck at putting the soft top top up - please help

Just got a new JKU and got the dual top package with the premium soft top. I had no issues taking the top down but putting it back up?? Oy. I'm 1/4 of an inch shy getting it to latch in the front. What am I doing wrong? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have heard it needs to break in, first couple of times is difficult, park it in the sun and the frabric will start to stretch when warm

Make sure you are opening the front latches all the way. Many times people will not open these all the way and that little extra will get you that 1/4". Open the latch and swing the latch back toward you and then up so it is actually fully opened and against the soft top roof. Another way to get a little more is to move your front seat forward and put the seat back in the upright position, sit in the eat and use it as leverage to push the front bar on the soft top forward to get it latched.

I had the biggest facepalm moment after 30 minutes of pushing and pulling to get the latch to reach the hook in front. I tried everything from every position and had all but given up. Then, I monkeyed around with the latch only to realize that the hook part of the latch handle can separate a bit allowing the hook to easily reach the front of the windshield. I felt like such a dolt. I hope others here read this before struggling needlessly!

If you have a jeep with the sun rider don't slide The sleeves that way will angle down and allow you to latch it

Just completed my first successful installation of the soft-top a few moments ago. The key is to leave the rear sail-cloth tabs out of the back corners. Then extend the header forward and pull forward far enough to simply have the "J" of the hooks onto the footman loops with the latch fully extended. No its time to use some weight effort to pull the back corners down and link in the tabs to the body. After they are fully seated, go back to the header latches and apply your previous frustration to the effort to close the latch. Of course allowing the top to "pre-bake" in the sun is always helpful.

We had the EXACT same problem and the same face-plant moment the first few times.

I know on my 2 door (i know not a jku but trying to help.) i have to take the rear part of the top and pull it up over the front of the top. Imagine trying to fold the top with the fronts latched and youll know what im talking about. Takes all the rearward force off of the top and pushes it forward. The i get the latches on, (dont sink them down.) and then push the top back down and seat everything. Then sink down the latches. Hope this helps.

here's another suggestion - i don't think I'll need two people once the top stretches out a bit.

No tips, but I'm right there with you. Installed the soft top yesterday and fought with the same thing regarding the latches being 1/4" short. Yes, they were fully opened and the top had been sitting in mid-70's sun for a couple of hours. I was able to get them to catch by sliding the seat forward as others had suggested.
