Compact car driver turning left from a parking lot pulled out in front of traffic and I hit it at ~40mph. 100% other drivers fault. 3K worth of body damage and frame tweaked 4" to driver's side. I never received a suspension/frame estimate. their policy limit wasn't enough to replace my 364day/7000mile vehicle. My insurance covered it and will get reimbursed. other driver is going to owe their compnay a couple of bucks (6K+). they're lucky they weren't hurt and that I wasn't driving something really expensive ... like a Hard Rock Rubicon ...:whacky:
That totaled the jeep? Wow. My recent accident was much worse and they didn't total it. Cost them $20k to fix though, which included a complete frame swap. Sweet Upgrade!
It's crazy to think of how easy it is to total a vehicle these days. What's worse is if they fix it instead of totaling it and then you try to sell or trade it in later on, you'll never get your money back. With Carfax reports now you'll be lucky to sell a vehicle that's ever been involved in an accident at least not without losing a bunch of $$$.
Thankfully you weren't hurt and everything went your way. Love your replacement!!!
That is crazy! Mine is in a similar situation 2015 15k miles and im at about 17k in damage from a lady hitting me. Mine needs a frame and a whole front clip along with a axle and they are repairing it
I'm sorry to hear about your accident and jeep. I hope you weren't injured.
body shop and insurance companies (both of them) were expecting 3+ months to just get the frame. it took almost 30days for them to decide it was a total loss.
I certainly didn't want to drive a compass for much longer. those things blow.
I can't believe that Willy was totaled. I feel like cars and other suv get into worst accident and theyre repairable. The get hit in the wheels and they're done.
Wow!!! I wouldn't have guessed that was anywhere near being close to totaled. Although with the frame that far bent, I definitely would no longer want to own it, so you're probably much better off.
I wouldn't be surprised if some insurance companies default to a total loss if there's frame damage. They are on the hook for the time it takes to repair too. That 30 days of indecision likely cost them $1,000 just in rental fees.
Curious, was the frame actually bent, or just the brackets shown where the arm mounts? Sometimes you can buy the vehicle back for cheap money, and then either: Repair & sell, or part it out. If bought cheap enough you usually can make money on it..
I'm really not surprised. I had a $40K truck less than a year old get totaled becuase the frame mounted bushings for the LCA were 'tweaked". A lot of insurance companies will write it off rather than risk liabilities down the road years later due to frame repair that may not have been up to standards.
Just saying it is not always that the cost of repairs are higher than the value of the vehicle. My carrier paid out over $35K and there's no way in hell the cost of repairs were half that. As one of the guys at the wrecking yard said..."somebody in Mexico is getting a nice truck".
I too like your new one, the 2-door hard rocks are the bestest, especially the silver ones!
