And one more question. I'm working on an ebay deal with a guy who took a 430N out of a 2012 Ram 1500. From what I've read, the 1500s are high speed bus like my JK. But the seller doesn't know if it's high speed or not. Before I pull the trigger, is there anyone who has more technical knowledge about these things than I do and could tell me if it's compatible? The model number is P05091186AC.
(Yes, I know I'll need the antitheft code. The guy who is selling it to me is getting it.)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, the Ram is. High speed bus vehicle so it should be compatible with yours.

Just to make sure that I'm OK on this b/c I'm about to close the deal on a 10 Sahara w/out Connectivity. I want Bluetooth. I'd like to have Nav as well My options are as follows:

- If I want Bluetooth, I need to buy the Mopar Connectivity package and get the the dealer to flash the system together.

- Buy a 730N (for about 700-1000 on ebay). This unit comes with Connectivity standard and has Nav

- Go to Crutchfield and get a better head unit for the same $$$$

After reading your post I think you have some details mixed up, I'm on my mobile right now and rather not take the time to dissect what you've posted .

If you're going to get an aftermarket HU just get one that has Bluetooth built into the actual unit. Most 3rd party HUs havee Bluetooth built into them and you won't need any mopar parts or a dealer flash for anything.

If you were keeping a stock radio then there would be more to say about the connectivity package, 430/730 radio purchase, and factory parts.

Close, but there's some confusion on connectivity as it's more than just the Bluetooth. It also includes the USB port in the console and the upgraded EVIC in the dash as well as steering wheel controls for it. If you get the UConnect installed by the dealer or add the 730N, then you will have the Bluetooth part covered, but you won't have the EVIC or steering wheel controls like it would from the factory.

I use my ipad as a head unit, but here is a simple background that I made. I'm not sure if you guys can use it, but I'll share it just in case.

yesterday, I didnt think there was anything that'd make me want to be in my Jeep any more than I already do...then I installed the 430rbz head unit that I ordered from a fellow Jeeper. the unit makes the dash look soooo mean (compared to the 130s) and I can't want to go Jeepin.

in my opinion, I think this is probably one of the best value added OEM upgrades for the cost, and on top of that, you save a sh!tton of money when compared to what Chrysler wants to charge for a similar factory installed unit.

win/win, highly recommended

Not to mention is better than the new ones. It provides a nice interface for the connectivity and if you really need gps on the dash that you can't touch while moving then you should pay your cell phone bill.

well this is a bummer

My 430 RBZ died today.

Screen works, but no sound. Tried pulling and re-seating fuses, nothing.
Everything appears like it's playing, but nothing is coming out.

Swapped back in the stock radio, works fine, so it has to be the unit.

Very disappointed - not sure what I'm going to do. There's no aftermarket option that has the same features built in without adapters etc. (literally, there are pretty much no units out there with a built in hard drive), but I don't want to drop another $300 or so on a take-off used unit with no support like I have now.

Not trying to sell you anything here but have you thought about using an iPad mini as your head unit? Radio, Internet radio, satellite radio, GPS, movies, engine diagnostics, off reading tilt meter, and so on. If you ever get tired of it you can sell it (Apple products tend to have a fairly high resell value, unlike head units that are outdated very quickly).

I have a cheap JVC single din with USB ports and bluetooth, because I needed pre-amp outputs for my amp. With a pac steering wheel adapter I control volume, mute, source, and skip with my steering wheel controls.

Just another option for you.

Erik

I was gonna try to copy and paste the info from my commercial thread, but it would be easier if you just click the link in my signature. I did film a quick video in my Jeep (I'm still using the prototype- it's the same, just not as nice as the ones I sell).

That sucks disco, you bought yours after market too right, ebay? Was yours a 509 (latest version)? Did you have any warning signs?

Did you try contacting Mitsubishi (at least that's who made mine)? They might be able to help.

Not really. I had one issue where it shut off unexpectedly, but then it was fine.

The one thing I did notice was that the sound from the front passenger side speakers was really weak with the unit. I didn't notice it for a while, but then I turned the Fader and Balance all the way to that corner and it was barely audible. With the old stock radio it's noticably different.

I got one estimate to repair it at $299. Not worth it - I'd be better off getting another one.

Yeah, not worth it. Mine did that sort of thing once too. A few days after I put it in. Since then all good, keeping fingers crossed.

Did you have to do anything, or did it just come back after a while?

Now that I have Lockpick V.5 and a backup camera is installed....I'm really digging my rbz with Connectivity.

Chrysler needs to lower the price on the rbz for the 2014 Sport. $695 MSRP? Really?

I want to have lockpick and a back-up camera installed, but where I live, these people haven't a clue.

Do it yourself...it isn't that hard.

I noticed in another thread you had a dealer install your 430N for $33....that isn't too bad of a price. But when you consider how much a dealer charges for stuff, and consider that they only charged you $33....that should tell you how easy of a job it is. It takes about 25 minutes for a first timer to swap radios. If you have done it before, it takes about 10 minutes.

Installing Lockpick is the exact same process as swapping radios, so you can do it yourself. 4 bolts to remove the dash, 4 more to remove the radio. Hardest part is pulling unhooking the power window connector....you have to really tug.

Back-up camera is a bit more time consuming running the wire, but it isn't hard.

Give it a try...

I'm not good at installing anything, but, this dealership here is slow and moody. They did install my 430N for $33. and kept telling me how bad they felt that I went somewhere else to buy my Jeep. When I was looking to buy my Jeep I went there cuz they are close, but cuz of their negative attitudes I drove 100 miles to another dealership and bought my Jeep.

I think a Lockpick would be a very good item to start out on as a first mod/install.

I've probably pulled my radio out 15 times since I've had my Jeep. I'm sure you've looked through this thread, a very common theme is people responding how easy the install was after they tried it.

You basically need two tools, a 7MM socket, and butterknife or flathead screwdrive (to pop the power window module out)....that is it. If you want to be extra safe, you can unhook your battery, or pull the radio fuse. I don't even bother to do that anymore....too lazy....

Everything with the Lockpick install is plug and play.
