I went to dealer today to obtain the security code for my now outed 130 RES so I can sell it. And they said I needed to bring the radio with me. And off course the title, the registration, the Jeep itself, blood and piss. Ok I made up parts of that, but what if I did not remove the radio and just needed the codes would they have told me to remove it? I Will go back there tomorrow with the 130 in hand. I guess..... Shouldn't they just be able tovibtsinvthis code from the vin or something?

The good thing is that you obtained the code prior to selling it. Now you won't have to worry about the buyer being upset when they try to install it and not having the code to use it!!

And for those of you with no Serius subscription, it's free (for a short time) so try it out and make sure you got the goods on those new 430 RBZ's! I think it started yesterday but they are advertizing it this am on my way into work.

Got my RBZ and the date code is 2831 with model number P05091168AC. Anyone know how to decipher any of that? Is that August 31st 2012 for the date code? It is the "anti-theft" version so it must be the newer version.

I am particularly interested in installing it in my 2013 Rubicon when it arrives but can't seem to find an online reference that tells me if this particular model of P0509 works in the 2013 Jeep Wranglers.

That is the 2833rd day of 2011.

When I Google that model number, it comes up with a low speed bus. Wrangler's use a high speed bus.

Doctorsti;

There is another label below and to the left of that date code. It will tell you the laser date. That is the date of your radio. The Anti-theft units, as well as the "509" numbers mean it's the newest version. It will plug and play, but you must have the 4 digit code to activate it.

Just confirm that the Jeep has the connectivity group installed in it, or it will not be plug and play. It has to have the U-connect cable in it.

Dang! You're 100% on that? I guess better luck next time, have to sell it I suppose.

yeah the other date is October 2011 but looks like it won't work due to it's slow speed bus

Yeah, I'm 100% positive on the high-speed bus issue.

509's are mostly the newer ones (2011 or later), so they usually say Anti-theft on the front and require a 4 digit code (make sure you get that).

As far as the dates go, yup, there is the 4 digit Julian date, and the laser date.....they are usually within a few months of each other.

For those interested, the radio shop I do business with has two of these head units, non-nav 430 RBZ's. He wants $300.00 each, plus shipping, and he guarantees them to work. I pulled mine out today, and plugged one of his in, and it worked fine. Green back-lit buttons and all. The one I tried was from a Dodge truck, and said so on the screen. After only about 1 minute, it switched over to jeep.

PM me for further info.

I recently purchased one on ebay that was listed as High Speed. Tore my dash apart and plugged it in and.. nothing. Model number was 5064959ah and just googled it to see that it was in fact a low speed model. Getting shipped back to seller. Posting here so others can learn from my trials.

That really sucks...

I think someone else also had the model number and ran into the same issue. I wonder if there is an uninformed e-bay seller out there who is labeling these units incorrectly?

My guess would be yes. Dodge Ram 1500s are high speed while the 2500s are low speed. Same problem with a few of the other Chrysler models. I have bought 2 of the 'net. But had to confirm what it came out of before buying. Bought a 430N and a 730N.

That would make sense.
I knew the rbz from the Ram pickup worked, but I did not know if was 1500 specific.

Lesson here: Triple check that model number.

I was watching an RBZ on ebay that just ended 5 or 6 days ago, and it had the same model number you mentioned 5064959AH. I don't know if it's the same one you bought and it really sucks that yours isn't working, but this one definitely did not say that it was high speed in the listing. In fact it didn't mention the bus speed at all. I almost bid on it myself until I googled it and saw that it was a low speed. Like pantermark said, always gotta triple check that number.

Hey panthermark, I asked this on another recent thread but I didn't quote you so I'm not sure if you saw it or not, but there's a seller on ebay that has an RBZ with that same model and revision that you have. I was just wondering if yours ever changed over to the Jeep splash screen or if it still says Chrysler? It seems like some people's RBZ's have changed and others' haven't. Just wondering if it's that specific model that won't change over, or if it has to do with the year of Jeep it's going into. Any idea how that works? Thanks!

The model I have:
Still says Chrysler (did not auto update).
Has the green LED back-lighting for the buttons.
Has the older software.
Does not say/have the Anti-theft wording/code.

Someone on this site an RBZ which auto-updates and still has the green back-lighting....I think it came out of a Ram, but I can't remember who has it. Which ever model and year it was (2011?), it would be one of the few versions that auto updates, and still has the green back-lighting to match the dash. But in all honesty, I don't think the back-lighting is that big of a deal. The newer models have blue back-lighting, but in all of the models, the screen is blue anyway....so either color works.

The newer versions all change over, but they almost all require a security code and have blue back-lighting.

The one I bought did say "high" in the listing. I won't trust that anymore as there are a lot of uninformed sellers out there. To Panthermark, I thought the only ones that need a security code are the ones that have "antitheft" printed on the front left corner?

Correct, if they antitheft, they need the security code. Pretty much all of the newer HU's (those HU's built +2011 or so) require a code.

As long as you get the code from seller, it is all good.

Thanks for the info!

Can anyone post a pic of their RBZ with blue back lighting at night, so I can see what that contrast looks like? I feel like the led colour matching the rest of the interior led's is more important to me than it saying Jeep on the screen, but panthermark, you're saying that it's not such a big deal cause the screen is blue anyways? Hmmm I'd really like to see what that looks like

Also, your saying yours has the older software but aren't you able to update to the latest software or does the newest software not run on the older (506****) models? I found this thread with a link to the newer software.. New Software Update MyGIG RBZ-RB2-RHB / 33.01.23 - Jeep Garage - Jeep Forum

There is an RBZ tech thread on the JK forum (yes, I hate to direct to other forums, but that particular thread has great instructions and pics) with step by step instructions. Here is one of the pics.
The blue isn't that huge of a deal because the screen is blue...plus you only see the backlighting at night.

As for upgrading the software, I "think" it can be done. I know there is a limit to one of the versions depending on the year...but I've been to afraid to brick the unit. But I don't know if any of the units can be updated to have the splash screen change (if it didn't already come that way)....maybe...I don't think so...

Yes, you can either go with lockpick/navTV and install a camera...or go with the camera out of a Jeep Commander (the dealer will have to flash it to turn the rearview camera on).

And yes, they play DVD's like the 430N and 730N....which means...they only play DVD's in Park (more lockpick to fix that).

Yes sir! I ordered my Sahara with just a 130 and Connectivity because I knew I was going to upgrade to an RBZ.

But we need to be clear, are you talking uconnect, or the actual connectivity package? Jeep did their best to make that as confusing as possible.

Basically, do you already have handsfree calling right now?

If you have a 130 and the connectivity package, it is 100% plug and play.

Even if you don't have the connectivity package, it is still plug and play...but I would say you should go aftermarket instead of buying and RBZ and the MOPAR connectivity kit (to add the mic and stuff).

Yup, you will see that link about halfway up the page. A lot of good info there (and even more info if you click on the other links)...but the problem is that most of the info stops at 2010. Sometime in 2011 is when Jeep starting making more changes (antitheft, and units that start with 509 instead of 506), so it is a bit tricky to know which is the most recent unit that works.
It is probably best to find out what vehicle the unit came out of, and stick with the ones that have been known to work in the past. (Like the Caravan, Town and Country, Ram 1500, ect..)

Remember, you need:
*High speed bus

*Both the yellow and white circle connectors on the back.
Like this (well, not like this one because the yellow one is cracked):
(XXX)

Note like this:
(XXX Sorry, I had examples, but the pics were too big)

* And the mounting holes on the sides, not the top/bottom.
Example...these are both high speed RBZ's, but the mounting holes are on the top/bottom, not the sides, so this one will NOT work in a Wrangler.

You want the mounting holes to look like this:
