But we need to be clear, are you talking uconnect, or the actual connectivity package? Jeep did their best to make that as confusing as possible.

Basically, do you already have handsfree calling right now?

If you have a 130 and the connectivity package, it is 100% plug and play.

Even if you don't have the connectivity package, it is still plug and play...but I would say you should go aftermarket instead of buying and RBZ and the MOPAR connectivity kit (to add the mic and stuff).
This might be a stupid question but is there a difference with u connect and connectivity package? I have a 2012 Oscar mike with the 130 HU and I can control things in my steering wheel.

It isn't a dumb question it all...
The difference is actually pretty confusing.

Uconnect is the "name" of the Chrysler's tech system and features.
Chrysler Uconnect
For awhile, it would actually say "130 with Uconnect" on your window sticker....it might still say it. But it basically means it has the capability to have certain functions.
http://www.jeep.com/en/2012/wrangler...rior/uconnect/

The Connectivity package was an option (either $385 or $485 depending on the year) which included that actual features such as handsfree calling (along with a few other options like a USB port and EVIC).

Basically, Uconnect is like saying something is "Wi-Fi capable...if you get a Wi-Fi adapter" while the Connectivity package actually includes the actual built in Wi-Fi antenna, and is ready to go out the box.

If you go build a 2012 Sahara right now, it will say this for under interior
UConnect 130
UConnect 430N
UConnect 730N
But none of those actually include Connectivty...which is an option further down and says this:

CONNECTIVTY GROUP
$385 / $6 a month
Remote USB Port
  • Uconnect® Voice Command with Bluetooth Communicate virtually hands-free with an in-vehicle, voice-activated system that allows you to talk using your Bluetooth®-compatible phone.
  • Electronic Vehicle Information Center

Now I'm even more confused...lol

All I want to know if I purchase a 430 RBZ will I be able to use the controls on my steering wheel still talk handsfree and at some point install a rear view camera and watch a dvd.

Don't over think it....

If you want to be able to talk "hands free", you need the Connectvity group which has the phone kit.

Here is the MOPAR kit from Quadratec (for those that didn't order the Connectivity package from the factory)
MOPAR 82212159 - MOPAR® UConnect Phone Kit with iPod Integration for 07-12 Jeep® Wrangler JK, Grand Cherokee WK2 & Liberty KK - Quadratec

It includes your Bluetooth module and microphone, and the official name is
MOPAR UConnect Phone Kit with Ipod Integration.

If your Jeep already came with the Connectivty package, you already have this hardware, plus a few other features (like EVIC).

The problem is that Jeep uses the word "connect" rather loosely. That kit is not "THE Uconnect kit".

It is simply the phone kit that is part of Chrysler's "UConnect brand name".

This would be much easier if the "Connectivity Package" was actually called "The Hands Free package".

Kinda like how "MyGig" is really nothing more than a generic name for any Chrysler Head Unit with a Touch Screen and a Hard Drive...but they have a lot of confusing and contradicting terms.

Yes...

And I'm assuming that since you can talk handsfree now, you do indeed have the Connectivity Package in your Jeep.

Thanks for the reply, Yes I have the handsfree feature on the 130n. Wow, that's great if it is plug and play. But I guess I need to get it flash at the dealer .

You don't even need a flash...that is the awesome part about the rbz swap.

If you get the correct unit, it is 100% plug and play. A 20 minute job. Even your voice command information will still be there (because it is housed in a separate unit).

You will only need a flash if you order an anti-theft version and do not have the 4 digit code.
Or...
If you get an older version, and simply want it flashed to have the splash screen change over (and maybe update the software).

I have the old software and Chrysler splash screen and it is fine. It pops up "Chrysler" when it first turns on...no biggie. I don't see the Chrysler logo on the right side when music is playing because I have the "song info" turned on (or sometimes pictures)..so that is there instead.

One more thing I should add...

Dealing with Sirius is a NIGHTMARE.

The do not want to change over the trial SAT radio accounts....actually it is their policy to not change them over. It took a lot of work to get my Sirius account swapped.
So if you enjoy your SAT radio and you still have 8 months left, you may want to wait until your subscription ends....or pay for a new subscription (no thanks)......or luck into a new enough RBZ that still has time left on the account.

Am I correct that model #P05064678AI will work in a 2012 w/Connectivity Group? Anything I would be missing with that model vs. the P0509 model?

Yeah, I would think so, I have the P05064678AH in mine.

-----------------------

What to look for:

Here is a link to an expried unit on ebay (I would have posted the picture, but it comes out too big)
Mygig Indash Unit P05064678AI | eBay

Nearly everything you need to know can be found in those three pics.

The only thing missing is that the front image is clipped on the sides, so you can't see where the mounting holes are (side mount or top/bottom mount), but those were shown in an earlier post.

OK,
You can tell this unit was made before sometime in 2011 because it says MP3-WMA-JPEG on the front bottom left corner instead of anti-theft. You know it is an RBZ because it shows that in the bottom right hand corner on the front.

The top side view (sticker view) tells you all of the good information.
Always Google the model number at the very top.(P05064678AI)
The Julian date code in the upper right hand of 3030 means it was made on the 303rd day of 2010.
On the bottom left had side of the sticker is a laser date of Oct 30, 2010. The Julian date and laser date are usually pretty close to each other, so we know this unit was made in late 2010...so it was probably in an early 2011 vehicle.

The Julian date for my RBZ is 1130 with a lazer date of Apr 23, 2010. I got mine from the original owner who had a 2010 Town and Country.

The rear view picture (which is upside down) shows the yellow and white round connectors to look for.

More importantly.....this is something that I have started to notice when I was researching them.

Right next to the yellow and white connectors is a green dash. I've often found a green or blue marker dash in that corner. That mark often indicates the color of the LED backlighting for the unit.

This RBZ is was made in 2010, does not have anti-theft, and has a green dash, so it probably has green LED back-ligthing.

There may be marks on the sticker itself (often near the Julian date), but those can usually be ignored. (My unit has a green mark near the round connectors, and a blue mark near the Julian date).

Panthermark is sooo correct. I used his early-on information, and it was a snap. I did not install it myself, because I have a friend that does this for a living, and he charged me $20.00 to do it. Add to that a Serius antenna, and I walked(drove) away for $40.00. He did everything, including teach me how to use the unit. After watching it done, I had to laugh at how easy it is to complete. It was litterally "plug-and-play". Mine immediately changed from Chrysler to Jeep, and it has the green backlighting in the buttons. The screen is very blue though.

Since my jeep had nothing but the 130 unit, I had to buy a U-connect kit and have it installed. This kit came with everything, including the microphone, CD, and 3M tape. It even has the port on the back to plug in the optional cable to plug in your Ipod. That kit cost me $239.00 on Ebay, but I've seen it a little cheaper, and alot more.

As was said here, it's expensive to update your rig if you have nothing to start with, like me. I'm into it for about $500.00 now, but I really love it. If you have the U-connect unit already, it is simply plug and go, and the steering wheel buttons work like a charm. I even loaded a picture of my dog into the pictures today. It's the screen display now...

You need to watch which unit you buy, as has been said here. I've posted here that my friend has two of these units for sale, for $300.00 plus shipping. I know these work, as he plugged the unit into my jeep, and it came to life, then switched to the Jeep logo in seconds. PM me and I'll get you in contact with the man. These were taken out of new vehicles, and switched for the Nav units, so they are brand new.

I've had a few inquiries, so let me know if I can help you get into one of these units. I get nothing out of this, just the satisfaction of knowing how happy you'll be with it.

Steven

Panthermark, fawsty - thank you!

Fawsty, does your friend have pictures of the units he is selling? Are these the anti-theft units and do they have Sirius?

Does anyone know how to update the Gracenotes info on the older units?

Check out this site for all updates..both the version for the RBZ and Gracenotes.

I'm too much of a chicken**** to try....mostly because I'm clueless when it comes to burning CD's. I don't know when was the last time I've burned one.

------
Maybe someday someone can explain to us why Jeep does not offer the RBZ as an option. I just wanted the screen, Hard-drive, and extra USB port. I didn't want to pay another thousand for nav when I have Google maps on my phone and a Tom-Tom collecting dust in a drawer somewhere.

Iron Maiden;

I don't have pictures, but they are all the same, except that there are no scratches on these. They are not Anti-theft, and yes, they are Serius radios.

Just bought one from him Steven. Thanks! He said they are brand new. He works or owns a car stereo install shop and deals with a local dealer and he said he had a couple of cars come in that wanted nav so he switched them out. Not sure if he has any more but if anyone is interested PM Steven for his info. Attached are a couple of pics he sent me. He also said that these HU never activated Sirius because they r brand new and might still be able to get the year free from them but he wasn't positive on that.

To all;

I spoke to Jerry a short time ago...he's out of these radios now. He will let me know when he gets more in, and I'll post the info here.

The radios you buy on Ebay are from the same type of circumstance, removed from a new car/truck to upgrade to the navigation unit. Watch there, as they have plenty of them. I saw one earlier today for a good price, but you take the chance it is scratched or something...just be careful.

Thanks for all the replies, and I truely hope everyone enjoys these.

Steven

Cool.....
Green dash by the yellow plug, 2010 build date...I'm guessing that has green backlit buttons. Let us know if that auto updates to the Jeep screen. I'm been meaning to keep track of what 506 versions with green backlighting auto update...and I think that is one of them.

Panthermark;

The unit in question does/did change from Dodge to Jeep as soon as it was plugged into my Jeep at his shop. Took about 5 seconds for it to recognize it was in a real vehicle, not that old Dodge product.

The radio he used to test, and it may be the same that was just bought, is a P05064879AG, with a build date of Dec 2010.

I'll post here if Jerry gets any more in, so we can all enjoy this radio.

That's actually interesting and pertinent news.

I swapped a 430 for the 130 in my 2011 with 1 month left on the 130's subscription. The 430 I bought still had 6 months left on the trial. Sirius didn't give me any problems when I switched the accounts last summer -- the rep that I spoke with actually seemed happy to help me.

I've been planning on doing the same for my wife's 2011 this summer once she figures out whether or not she wants NAV and her subscription is close to expiring. If Sirius' new police is to give you crap about it, though, I may just let her subscription lapse before doing the swap.

20 minutes...

4 screws for the dash, 4 for the HU.....

Use a butter knife or something nice and flat to gently popped the power window pod out.

Hardest part BY FAR is undoing to stupid connectors (especially the power window).
Pull and squeeze? Squeeze and pull? WHY WON'T YOU COME UNDONE!!!?!?!? DAMN YOU CHRYSLER!!!!

Once you do it you will be like...."Well this was really, really, really, easy".

I've swapped my radio several times...it takes minutes now.

you do realize that the sirius subscription can be canceled just as soon as the previous owner realizes the sirius subscription is not intended to follow the head unit, right? I'm shocked that anyone would sell a radio with a subscription, and would be even more shocked if someone didnt like sirius..

For some reason, it seems like quite a few do...
I doubt if I renew my subscrition once it runs out. I only listen to a few stations, but the real problem is that Sirius sounds like crud in a can. I get a cleaner sound streaming YouTube than I get out of Sirius...that is a shame.

I wonder if people (in other vehicles) are upgrading from RBZ to 430N's are only concerned about nav?

Pull and squeeze? Squeeze and pull? WHY WON'T YOU COME UNDONE!!!?!?!? DAMN YOU CHRYSLER!!!!

Once you do it you will be like...."Well this was really, really, really, easy".

I've swapped my radio several times...it takes minutes now.
Took me 25 minutes. Your absolutely right about that stupid connectors. I was cursing it back and fourth. Holy crap. Then I had a tough time disconnecting the antennas wtf???? But it's all in and done. I did loose one of those screws It fell behind the controllers when I was trying to screw the one screw in the dash. Going to have to go to hardware store and get another one...Looks AWSOME. It actually sounds alot better than the 130 I had. It did light up jeep as soon a u turned the key and I have Sirius!!! Now I just have to play around with it and figure out how to use it..lol Thanks for all your help everyone esp Steven for hooking me up with Jerry for the HU

I swapped mine so many times I thought about putting some silicone lube on the connectors...but mine now come undone much easier.

I had dropped a screw as well (the one behind the power window pod). I simply removed/pulled back part of the lower dash and I was able to get it.

Congrats on the install! If you ever had to swap radios again, it will take you half the time. Now you get to enjoy the long wait to transfer a ton of music from a usb drive to the hard-drive.

What color are your LED back-lights...green or blue? (I'm guessing green)

I'm another that just bought an RBZ unit and am impatiently waiting for it to come in the mail. I currently have the 130n unit, and really miss my touch screen from my GMC Terrain. Lockpick and possibly backup camera in the future hopefully.

I'm getting really jealous that I still have the silly Chrysler logo that almost looks like an eyeball. Luckily, I just keep "song info" up over it...but still....I want mine to say Jeep as well....

Panther - why not upload some pictures and change the display option to show a picture instead of the logo. Won't help with the startup but overall a picture is better than Chrysler Logo.
