improved tunes! upgrading factory sound in JKU

I replaced the stock infinity speakers in the sound bar of my 08 JKU with some from kicker that I picked up from crutchfield.

Kicker 40CS654 6-1/2" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com

Man what a huge improvement in the sound, especially with the windows down or the top off driving highway speeds.

Also, make sure TSB 08-030-07 has been completed.

The only issues I ran into with the install were the adapters were a bit of a pain to get to install with the factory speaker cover. I had to align them up just right to get all 3 screws in. I believe they are may be scosche.

Besides the new speakers sounding louder...does the audio seem more clear?

Yes, louder and clearer, especially at higher volumes.

Are these more or less plug and play? No amp or anything else required?

I installed these speakers two months ago in the JKU and the sound is MUCH better. However, they do seem underpowered now. I do not have a stock amp system and will be adding one soon. I replaced the fronts with the same speaker(may go component though) and the sound is also MUCH better. Pollyfilled everything and added dynamat to all plastic surfaces to reduce friction. Now I need amp'ed sound.

Stock speakers are 2 ohm impedance and your replacements are 4 ohms, hence you're correct in your view that they seem underpowered - they need more push to create the same amount of volume.

Where do you find that info? Everything I have found regarding the OEM speakers, points to them being 4 ohm.

I don't have the stock amp in mine, just the basic 130m with uconnect. 2ohms really? That makes sense if it is true.

You can look around on various sites and find the info.

Also, when I tested my stocker Alpines (I replaced them with 77KICK10's), I got a reading of 2.7 ohms on my cheapo (free) Harbor Freight voltmeter.

I just ordered these speakers from Crutchfield today. Expecting delivery before the weekend. Can't wait to get them installed. Next step will be to amp them and the the last step will be a sub (maybe)

Installed mine today. The adapter and jeep speaker cover was in fact a bitch to install. Lining up them screw was not an easy task, but they finally went in. May be me, but they don't look as flush as the oem, could be because of the extra adapter. That being said they are in the solid and they don't rattle. I also polyfilled the bar.

Now let's get to the important part, how do they sound.... Well they sound way better than the oem versions. The speakers are crisp and clear, the bass is not crazy loud, but then again i wasn't expecting it to be. That said, it is way better than what was there before. I tested the front oem to the rear ones and the sound is simply better, no doubt. I have absolutely no misgivings of this mod, should have done this the first week i got my JK.

Too cold to get the dash ones done, will get to that as soon as it warms up a bit, crazy cold here!
