Indicator Lights - No Code! HELP!!!!

I don't overly trust any mechanic and I would rather get insight from others who may have been there in the past before I shell out tons of money.

On a rainy Christmas Eve I was speeding on the interstate and all of a sudden the following two lights came on together (the yellow ones not the red one). Nothing had happened to cause this that I had noticed.

I have been in an accident (September '10) and the alignment does need to be fixed. I have also had the Steering Damper replaced under warranty (June 2010). Could either of these be the issue?

This is my first Jeep and I am IN LOVE!!! I just want to take care of her and ensure she is with me for a very long time.

Andi

I went through that with my 2007 JK for the three and a half years I owned it. Lights would come on and leave no code for the mechanic to read so no repairs were in order. They would go off after a few minutes and stay off of a month or two and then come on again. When I traded it off with almost 48000 miles, I never did get a resolution on what the problem was. I have not had that problem with my new 2011 model and hope I never do. It can be very frustrating.

The yellow ESP/ABS lights, go on when they damn well please, unless you trip the ESP button, but

The "RED" lightning icon, is for your Elex Throttle Control (ETC) Module and that controls your gas pedal response--If it stays on, I'd get to a dealer SOON, there's a possibility of your engine shutting down to either nothing or "limp mode" and that can happen on the freeway--

Good luck

I don't work on jeeps, but on fords with stability control they have a steering wheel angle sensor that can cause the stabilty light to come on(if steering wheel is not centered). The reason i mention this is you said your alingment if off. Is the steering wheel not centered when driving down the road?

No it is not centered. The place I went "forgot" to do that and they told me that since I took it off the lot they weren't responsible any more.

Do a search on this forum, it's pretty easy to center the steering wheel, after you get it centered disconnect the battery for a few(to clear light) drive it and see if it helps. Like i said i work on fords so do know if this is your problem but it can't hurt to try.

I'm a mechanic and the vehicle should store an abs code which is separate from the check engine light(emissions related problems) so if your mechanic is plugging in a code reader then that won't do anything, even if the lights where on and he scanned them with a code reader it probably wouldn't show. I recommend making sure the mechanic is using the proper scanner

Lenora-- I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler.....virtually brand new.... never been in an accident...driving along....the throttle and stability lights came on... just as yours did. The result was that it ran rough and would not accelerate properly. I took it to a dealer. They said it was possibly a vacuum leak (their diagnostic equipment indicated that it was a vacuum leak but does not tell them where the leak is ) and they had tightened some connections. It seemed to have been fixed.... FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS.....Now it started again. As I said, my jeep is virtually brand new, the weather had nothing to do with it. The good news is (if you want to call it that) when this problem occurs, I pull over, shut the engine off and restart..... then it works fine... until the next time. So, my question is to myself, do I just deal with this on my own, or do I keep taking it back to the dealer.

Update!

So the Jeep went into the shop on Thursday for the lights Turns out the fact that the alignment was off was the reason the lights came on. $66 later and the lights are off!!!!

I am a new first time Jeep owner (2011 Wrangler). I am having issues such as Hood flutter and throttle and stability error lights. I read here in the Forum how other people have the same problems yet, when I go to a dealer and explain to them these Issues, they look at me as if I am explaining my latest alien abduction.......They seem to know nothing of these problems...... How can that be ?? ....... just asking.

When the lights on the Jeep kept coming on, I got really frustrated. The only reason the dealership found what was wrong was because they were taking shots in the dark. They had no idea what was wrong with the Jeep and weren't sure if correcting the alignment would stop the lights from coming on.

Basically, before I took my Jeep into the dealership I started this thread for ideas of what could be wrong and I made them look into all of them. I don't have a ton of faith in mechanics whether they work for dealerships or not. On my car, there was a re-call on the belts. They exchanged them and on the drive from Pittsburgh south to WVU the pulley fell off just as I exited the freeway. They had forgotten to tighten the bolts all the way.

Trust yet Verify! (Trust they are competent, but do research on your own as well)
