Initial Installation of Factory Soft Top

2010 Wrangler here and the vehicle came with Freedom Top and soft top neatly wrapped and packed for transportation/delivery of the unit only. I have removed hard top and am ready to "try" installing soft top kit myself versus taking to dealer. Searches here have yeilded no detailed instructions nor does the Owners Manual.

Anybody do this themselves or should I relegate myself to going to dealer?

Thanks for any responses! Again, this is the initial installation of all hardware and more than raising and lowering - initial hardware install.

Alright - but let me ask to clarify - the Sunrider Top must be like OEM and the installation instructions emulate the installation of the factory soft top?

Give yourself plenty of time and cold beer. It ain't easy, but it's not that hard. The instructions that came with ours were sorely lacking in some areas. If you run into problems post up and well do our best to help. Idk if the dealer would do it any better than you can. Save your $ for gas and beer

If you soft top came as a part of the dual top option which it sounds like it did, the install is very easy. I just got mine about a week ago from someone who took it off their jeep because they got the dual top option and didn't want the soft top.

Basically all that you have to do is install the bow mount brackets to the roll bar if they are not already there. Then install the door surrounds around the passenger and driver side doors. The bows, header and top are already assembled to each other which cuts out a lot of the assembly time.
Connect the bows to the bow brackets on the roll bar and then you should be able to raise the top to make sure everything is situated right.
This process took me right about an hour to complete and it was a lot easier than I thought. Initially I was going to have the dealer install it but I thought that I would give it a try and im glad I did.

Let me know if you have any questions and ill be happy to try to answer them

Understand! Coaching acknowledged - go buy a few beer for start - I just looked at Sunrider PDF(s) and assume that the latest application for the TJ is applicable for the JK? Thanks again everyone.

Are the bows, top and header already assembled in with the top rolled up? If so then the install is pretty simple, check out my other post.

Ahhhh, I overlooked that the frame was already assembled. Your install should be cake then. It's the whole putting together the frame, header and then attaching the skin that is the challenge....

ARRRGHHH - New Jeep Owner so this may now make sense. Got out there feeling confident only to discover no window panels or any supporting hardware. Talking with dealership. Worse thing is the selling dealership is 500 Miles away. Oh well, going to drive it like it is today and then the Saturn until I work through this. Dolt that I am, I didn't expect there to be a separate package or something.

Got to smile at yourself sometime but I wish my foot could kick my tail right about now.

Hey we've all been there at one point or another. That sucks that none of the hardware was included. Basically is should have come with two boxes, one with the three windows, and one with the door surrounds.

Crap...I feel like I'm going to run into major confusion too...although mine DID come with 2 boxes...so i'm crossing my fingers that when if effing finally warms up I'll have all the parts. Falcon, I'll be contacting you to get tips!!

Sure - logged in to with a follow-up question that "tysalem" has already answered - E.g., they will owe me two boxes (windows and door surrounds). Either he is a mind reader or has known similar aggravation - LOL. tommyb: absolutely call on me but I'd figure by the time I work through this, you may have already beat me out on the installation. Once again, thanks to all who have offerred assistance.

Trust me, once you receive all the parts that you need (door surrounds and windows) the installation should take you no more than an hour. It is very simple and once you get it on, you will know what I am talking about.

Yes, I do know your similar aggravation. I searched for a few months to find a dual top soft top because I knew how much easier they are to install. I visited many people selling theirs only to find out that they didn't have the two boxes! So I have felt your pain.

Thanks again!

PS - I like the Yellowstone reference as you are right in all probability! Ground zero would be the place to be on that day. LOL

Anywhere within 100 miles of ground zero you'll be turned to ash. So if you want to go out that way then sure!

Dealership appears to be working with me to remedy. It's Landers in Bentonville, AR. But it is cramping my desires right now. May have to go back to hardtop if something doesn't happen soon. Thanks again for all the responses.

Ok I don't want to sound too dull but......how long does it take to remove a factory
softtop and put back on? IE leave home and it's nice so take the top off. Find out later that monsoon rainstorm is coming and would like to be somewhat dry!
The intructions all appear to be how to install a softtop from scratch.
Thanks

The first time it will take you about 25-30 minutes. After a couple of times only about 10 minutes tops. That includes zipping the windows back on as well.

Im guessing you don't mean actually removing the entire soft top off the jeep. It folds nicely into the back of the jeep so that putting it back up is very simple. I've had my soft top for about 2 weeks now and I can take off and put the soft top on in 5 to 10 minutes usually. Hope this helps

About the bow mount brackets, do they fit on top near the front? I've got instruction but they're poorly done. The jeep also came with two clamps which I'm assuming go in the back to attach the rear window. If anyone has a link to a video/instructions that mention everything, please let me know.

The clip on tail gate retainers go on either side of the tail gate. They just clip over the rail to the sides of the gate. The brackets go on the roll bar near the rail. My JK is 600 miles away or I'd take a pic for you.... There should be holes in the roll bar cover where they belong.
