Unhappy Inside of hardtop got wet, signs of rust

I was way too eager to get my hardtop off my 2011 unlimited and get the softtop on. Therefore; I built one of those wooden dollies that stand the top up and left my hardtop uncovered in my backyard. Yes I realize I shouldn't have done this but I don't have a garage to store it. All and all after some rain I noticed that the white strips on either side of the inside of the back window and the defogger strips started showing signs of rust. I tried to windex it which took some rust off but it is still noticeable. Does anybody know of anything I can apply without harming the glass or defogger system that will take this rust off? Also are the interiors of these hardtops meant to withstand rain and sun? Could I have damaged my defogger and wiper fluid systems?

I learned my lesson and immediately bought a heavy duty tarp to cover it. My main concern now is that I didn't cause any irreversible damage.

Any input or help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, john

Your hard top is in rain and sun all the time when it's on the Jeep. You shouldn't have hurt anything. In fact I'm surprised there's even anything on it that can rust.... Ours lives outside all the time, and I've never noticed rust on it, only dirt.

Since he mentioned having it on a dolly, I'm thinking it was standing up with the inside exposed as opposed to sitting on something as if it were on the Jeep.

Coat the connector for the wiper/defogger with die -electric- silicone- compound so the pins do not corrode.

you could try some old school Naval Jelly. Careful with it near the plastic though.

Trey never gets to be right, does he.

I doubt the inside of the hard top would get wet when it's on the Jeep, but I'm sure you could find a way to get it wet AND muddy!

Followup:

Had some torrential downpour lately, all looks good so far.

Removed the roof and re-seated the panels, wiping down the rubber seal first.

I also noticed that the 'thumb' screw next to speakers on speaker bar was loose, when i initially unscrewed it it had a little water in it!!

thanks again guys.
