Inspection checklist before driving off the lot

I'm taking delivery on a 2014 JKUSS in a few weeks. What are some things I should check for during the inspection? Here are a few I can think of for now:

Exterior paint
Wheels
Under carriage for rust
Under the hood
Interior options from order

What else?

Just like I said in another similair thread yesterday, check for missing skid plates. This used to be an issue.
Check your usb port if you ordered it
Check if the hardtop has not been damaged while installing incorrectly

Missing fasteners on the wheel flares.
Check the paint CLOSLY.

Not sure what the dealer would do about undercarrige rust. I suppose you could refuse delivery. Never heard of anybody doing this for undercarrige rust. I painted my muffler and touched up the axles as soon as I got it home. I also plasticoated the exposed undercarrige bolts.

Also, make sure that your roll bar grab handles, owners manual DVD and case, extra key, floor and cargo area mats, Freedom Panel storage bags, jack, and license plate screws are still in or on the vehicle.

Don't forget to have them remove all the "DEALER" decals/stickers. Better yet, tell them before hand to not even put them on. But they still won't listen. They had sneaked one on mine and it was crooked as shit! I had a salesman remove it before I drove off.

I always have that written into the sales contract.

Make sure if there is something missing and they tell you they'll get it to get a "We Owe". Basically they put it in writing and give it to you, or have them pull it from something in their inventory if you don't feel like going back to pick up the part. You can always refuse delivery which is what I would do if there are any dings or damage to the paint.

I agree with Lysol I only allow the dealers name on a license plate frame, no decals with their name on it.

I realize it might be hard to do given you are picking up a new vehicle....but try to take delivery during the day when you can really see the paint and can make a thorough inspection. Some folks may be hesitant but a fluids check is never a bad idea.

And if you ordered it, check the window sticker to make sure what you wanted is on your Jeep. You might also want to have the window sticker for grins and giggles..

A copy of the factory build sheet is also very interesting. The dealer can provide one, most do not or do not really want to. It shows EVERYTHING that has been put on your Jeep. If you have never seen one it is interesting reading. There are some forums that if you belong to them (meaning paid some bucks) you can obtain one ahead of time.

Check under the carpet for water in case of leaks. Also remove the tray in the cargo area and check the jack compartment for water. If you find any sign of leaks make them fix it before you sign the papers. I have had to go back numerous times for leaks.

A full tank of gas?

What about factory jack, ipod cable, hard top screws, odometer (sometimes the sales team drives vehicles to lunch), free sat radio subscription.

Make sure the drivers seat adjusts and stays put)

Some of these may not apply.

Be sure to take it for a test drive (over 55 if possible!)

Great point about to when to pick up a vehicle. The best time to pick up a vehicle is during the day when it is not raining. The best time for a salesman to deliver a car is when its dark and raining. LOL

grab handles
floor mats
freedom top bag

^ There was a bad batch effect going on the 2013's, mine is one of them. The rust is surface rust form poor prep on the axles, knuckles, etc. I don't have frame issues, although it was noted there were some there too.

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/13-...as-221853.html

My knuckles in front is where I'm seeing it, I didn't know to look, and didn't think of it either. The 2005 TJ I traded in had less rust on the suspension areas on trade in than my JKU has now. Sad... Now I am thinking I need to use some of this to fix it up -

This happened to me as well. Look for the bag. I made them give me one out of another new Jeep before I left the dealership.

I ordered the 3-piece hard top. Is this bag you speak of for the 2 pieces directly above the driver and passenger?

It may be in your best interest to just casually inquire about your dealer's attitude toward mods and warranty work. This could be very helpful to know up front, as many dealers are not particularly mod friendly. Also make darn sure your soft top windows are all present and accounted for. Mine mysteriously went missing, and it took 6 weeks for them to get another matching set shipped in.

I bought my 2013 JKU about three weeks ago. It wasn't a custom order...just one off the lot. Before I left, I noticed that the storage bag for the freedom panels was missing. They snagged me one from somewhere. What I didn't notice for a couple of days was that the front floor mats were missing. Luckily they were cool about it and got me a set.

I'm seeing people mention grab handles. Is that something that's standard on 2013s, or is it an option? If it's standard, I'm missing those.

Yes, the 3 piece hard top bag that holds the 2 T top like pieces. The dealership said, your vehicle didn't come with one. I then informed him that it did and went to a cheaper Jeep Wrangler and took one out and stated that I was taking it with me. He then said that would be ok, he would order a new one for the other Jeep.

I did find grab handles (2) and hanging handles (2) for hanging clothes on inside my console. So everything was there except for the bag and as stated above, I took one of those anyways.

I was missing the clothes hooks and grab handles - didn't look for them and didn't care, I would never use them anyhow.
