Install Hard Top ??

We need to put our hard top back on b/c soft top zipper can't be fixed- a friend has one and said it's hard to do but I searched online and found a video of a Bestop one and they said it was pretty easy- we have the one with the t-tops- anyone know how hard it is to put on- we have all the screws - about how long should it take?

Hard tops are really awkward - it definitely helps to have a friend or two help you set it on the Jeep.

Remove the softtop hardware first - the windshield channel and door surrounds.

Then, it shouldnt' take more then a few minutes to get the hard top set down in place.

BUT: you will need to tweak and adjust to get the fit for the top exactly right. Tighten a little here, loosen a bit and move over there. That can take some time. REad the instructions -- you can go to Bestop.com, look up your hard top and find the install PDF.

if you have the 3 piece freedom hardtop it's not hard. But the rear section will require a second person to do safely as the top is heavy/awkward to do yourself. The rear attaches with 6 tork bolts, 3 along each side and 2 tork bolts at the top front corners, one on each side. the front panels simply are attched using header latches and several other L shaped latches. Just make sure the rear goes on first, than the passenger side front piece and than the driver side. This will help ensure a proper seal and hopefully prevent leaks.

Takes me about half an hour to change over. I will be doing it next month. I get my neighbor to help me place the hard top rear section because it is too big to handle by myself. In your case, since you are changing to the hard top and not from the hard top, you would remove all of the soft top items in preparation for putting on the hard top including the door surrounds. Then up with the hard top rear part securing it to the tub with six screws. Don't over-tighten them because you could crack the plastic of the flange that holds the top down. There are a couple of bolts on the top of the rear part of the hard top that bolt into the roll cage and use a torx driver. Then up with the two front top sections. I secure the twist locks, then the 2 windshield clamps and finally the two bolts with the large plastic twist pieces.

You will get lots of ideas and here's mine, I've had the top and "T" tops off nUmerous times and NO LEAK

Before you set the top on (with friend), check all the GASKET surfaces and/or vacuum them to get rid of debris, then set the main top in place and finger start ALL torx screws--you may have to jostle it a couple times, to get all screws lined up then (atleast I do) do a cross tighening of the TUB screws, till their all snug, then tighen the overhead screws, just FIRM

Now, for the "T" tops, put the passenger side on and align the outside "PIN" (just over the door front), jostle it to settle in place, then just START the rear thumbscrew, put the drivers side on the same method, now latch the front windshield latch's and systematically work back thru the latch's, untill the final rear thumbscrews---JUST FINGER TIGHTEN BOTH, very light-light-light

Now, you may say, What a bunch of BS,, thats OK, but how many times have you read of hardtop leaks ???

Mine doesn't, in downpours or freeway travel in the snow/rain

If you're interested, I have a not so popular system of hoisting and storing the top, in the garage

Good luck--DON'T LET EVEN A CORNER STRIKE THE BODY/CONCRETE

I don't know what you'll do with the rear wiper hookup, that was the 2nd thing I took off when I got my Rubi home

Glad everything worked out!

I'm sending this off to our customer support team, letting them know that it is possible to install a hardtop. They've been suffering with installation issues on hardtops lately.

Jeez I hope they know how to put one on.....can't give the customer much service if you don't know how to do it yourself.

I meant suffering from a flurry of calls and letters about hard tops. They were just feeling frustrated.
