Installed Soft top for first time. rear window doesnt seat

Am I missing something or is this supposed to be this way. I followed the directions from the service manual. Everything went fine except this one little thing.

The area where the removable rear window sits against the rear door. It doesn't look like there is anything to keep that plastic thing in place so that it locks.

If you mean to remove the hard top. I installed a hoist in my garage and built a T to lift it.

Did you install the door surrounds? The window doesn't rest against the door, it tucks into the door surround.

Yes door surrounds are installed

May be I need to move the whole window towards the front to be able to tuck it in to that gap that I am pointing to.

Zip 1" or so and the tuck in. Zip complete and tuck into body channel. Velcro and done

Take the window out. Only zip about 2 inches. Tuck the front edge into the slot in the door surround. Tuck the bottom of the window into the body channel. NOW zip the window the rest of the way. Smooth over the velcro, then go back and push the front edge fully into the channel.

this happened to me when i first got my jeep. unzip the window almost all the way back to the starting point. then tuck the edge of the window into the door surround and then finish zipping it back up. the edge of the window is suppost to tuck into the door surround.

I installed my last weekend and I can tell you life gets easier as soon as the fabric stretches out. I had a hell of a time getting the top 3 inches of that portion of the windows to tuck. They pop in fine now.

I timed myself. Took me 13 minutes to get the whole soft top on with the side windows and back window. Not too bad.

Happens to most.

Also, before you tuck into the body channel/Velcro pull from the end opposite of the door surround. It pulls the fabric tight locking that area into the door channel. Then finish up.
If that make any sense try it

@sunnykk - yeah, this forum saved my bacon two weekends ago when I could get the top closed at all (who knew those clamps extend out further!!!)

Sunny, I had the same issue when I first installed my tops. I must have looked at several videos and re-read the manual a dozen times before it clicked and I got it. How was your shoulder putting the top on? it could be a chore, especially for a 4-door.

Same here, it took awhile to figure out what was meant by ''only 1 seam will be visible". Crystal clear........in retrospect.

Thanks for asking. I have 95% range of motion back. Been about 10 weeks after surgery. Strength is another issue though. My physiotherapist has warned me not to use my shoulder for heavy stuff even though it may look tempting. Tried chopping some firewood 2 weeks ago - couldn't do it. I still have the skid plates in my garage. I will try and install them in mid May.

Didn't have any issues loading the soft top on to the jeep. As long as I don't extend my arms away from me, it's not too bad.

Love this forum.

Installed my soft top for first time on my 2013 JKU and had exact same issue. Could not seem to stretch the window over far enough to get it into the correct grove.

By only just starting the zip-up, and then putting windows into the grove - it was easy.

Thanks folks - very useful advice!
