If I had heat like you have, Jimbo, I don't care what color my roof is, I'd have to have multi-layers of insulated head liners and a super charged AC system and humidification all the time. We coastal folks (at least those I know) are real heat sissies... just can't take it. But then, folks from inland can't take the cold we love here, so I guess it all balances out..... :thumb:
I have no idea, haven't ever seen or used the product. If others had the same issues as you and they are happy with it then chances are you'll be happy too.
I made my own set of headliners using foil backed foam insulation board from home depot. It has a foil barrier on both sides. I then covered it with black headliner material from a local fabric store. The fabric was the most expensive part @ $15/yrd. My total bill was about $70 and 3 hours of labor. I have only done the tops so far. I may do the sides at some point but I am not sure how much of a difference it will make.
With the foil backing I wonder how these compare to the hot heads performance wise. I am sure the hot heads look nicer as there are a few imperfections in my measurements.
How much headliner material did you end up using? How did you attach the headliner material? Did you use 3M tape, or spray? or another method? Did you cover the board on both sides, or just the bottom?
What did you use to attach the pieces to your freedom panels?
I think I am going to make my own, as I want to do a little customizing...
I used Boom Mat and it is great. Thick foam with a cool texture, easy to install and provides great insulation for your sound system as well as insulation from the hot roof!!

X2.... I only put the mats on the Freedom Top, need some warmer weather outside to take the rest of the top off. But just with the Freedom top covered it has made a noticeable difference in sound and the amount of cold felt. Can't wait to see how it does with all the panels installed and the full summer heat. The entire contact surface is covered with 3M type tape so every square inch has adhesive holding it on.
I don't know jack about thermodynamics so won't argue with either one of you but does make me wonder why all of those old fashioned room heating hot water radiators were painted silver?
Didn't get to run the test like I had planned, ran out of sun. I did do a test with with one each readings today at the lake house. Will try again next weekend. One of the Jeeps will be gone for a week (I must be nuts for lending it to my son-in-law for a week!:banghead.
The all silver Jeep peaked out at 103.1* and the black top Jeep peaked out at 120.0* (even with black leather on the silver top Jeep as opposed to gray Freedom Cloth on the black top Jeep).

I don't live in a hot area so I dont care about the temperature insualting, but am very interested in the noise reduction. How well did the headliner cut down on road noise, especially for those of you running mud tires?
I've read all the proof, here in Maryland lately I can't take hard tops off (pannels) without putting a rag on my hands. These will have to help with that, road noise (even if minimal) would be cool and astectics is a win win win for me I'm ordering now. They are on sale!
I installed Boom Mat the other day. I chose it over the HotHeads based on the thickness. They are different approaches because they use different materials. I'm very impressed with the fit and finish of the Boom Mat and installation was simple. I can't imagine those panels ever coming off accidentally, in fact they would be tough to remove even if you tried.
Right now I have the body colored black hard top sitting in the yard in the sun, it's 90 degrees and sunny. The Boom Mat is nice and cool to the touch while the uncovered parts are very hot to the touch and the outside top will burn your hand. Before the Boom Mat it was tough to take the front tops out without burning my hands.
There's really no way to do a fair A/B audio test and I'm extremely skeptical of anyone saying either of these products dramatically improved their sound. They should both help.
I've never seen HotHeads in person so I can't make any comparison. Pick the one you like best. I almost chose the HotHeads just because it looks so clean with the side panels. And I just noticed HotHeads is running a 25% off Labor Day sale.
ordered the 3m roof panels on Sunday. realized today that i also wanted the sides. Called Mark up and he said no problem. will be sending you an invoice
this isn't my first black vehicle, but this is my first black jeep. Holy baby jesus does she get hot in the sun. wow. not so bad with windows down/doors off... but... hopefully these help as stated. if nothing else they look really good!
besides the white ceiling reflected off my bald head too much. time for black lol
I've searched through all of the old threads...but I can't find any. Does anyone have pics of the tan/brown hotheads installed? I'm leaning towards tan/brown to match the interior.
I showed these to the wife, and she is interested in trying to make them to save some loot.
For anyone interested...Hotheads is running another 25% off sale until 3/12...
I actually came up about 8 inches short with the 3M tape..but this is only because the final few inches of the tape are stuck to the cardboard roller, so it does not come off clean. I was able to snip a few parts of 3M tape for runs that we a bit too long, along with adding some cheap two-sided foam tape from Menards to make it all work.
I ordered the "slightly damaged" ones from hotheads at like 174 or something it was a great deal. I got them opened up and truly I can't see the lines he says are in them and that is laying them down face up during the day in the sun let alone hung up in the underside of the roof of the Jeep. Great deal and great packaging. I can't wait to put these in my Jeep when I get it!
I too just bought the "slightly damaged set with sides $273.50 shipped
Can't wait to get them and installed!
