Intake

I have done a search for intakes for the JKs but the only thread was for the AFE, has anybody tested the AEM brute force or the Airaid?

I'm pretty sure that Joe can get you any intake you want. He and Lisa are adding products to their site almost daily, but it is a grind to get it all out there. Shoot him a PM or give him a call at the shop and he'd be happy to discuss the intakes with you. I've driven his rig with and without that intake and it does make a difference.

Well Got the brute force installed definatly makes a difference try and get some pics tomorrow morn. My only question though is I seem to have a whistle during slight acceleration does anyone know if this is normal for a cold air intake or maybe I need to make an adjustment. I mean its not a real lout whistle but its enough to notice.

Yea I know a whistle is normal but this one is a little louder than normal. We have come to the conclusion that its because the metal tube on the brute force is echoing instead of insulating.

I was looking at cold air intakes also for my JK. Just about how much more power do you think you got? There a couple brands out there but i have always heard that AEM was the best. Do you think the same? Also about how much was your intake?

you should hear my car with an intake, sounds like a boiling kettle it whistles so bad lol

I have heard on normally aspirated cars a cold air intake can make up to 5hp
On turboed cars they do nothing except lean it out unless you tune for it. Every WRX owner learns that the hard way.

your cat is one mean designer!
But I think the Brute Force intake goes to the side behind a heat shield which would be better

TJ's Are DIFFERENT than a JK. If you try to bore a JK throttle body, you will cry when you see the results. They are plastic and have a buch of electronics in them. Everyone NEEDS to REMEMBER that the TJ is 110% different than the JK. Most, if not ALL of the info on TJ's does not apply to a JK. I am seeing this ALOT on most of the forums, as TJ owners compare thier mods to a JK. When you "bored" the throttle body on your TJ, what did you use for a throttle plate when you were done?? Because unless you increased the size of the Throttle plate, it would explain the whistling you are getting. Plus, on a dyno, the increase would be negligable, at best. It does no good to make the opening bigger, neck it down, and then make the outlet bigger. It creates a venturi effect and it just makes alot of noise....

Theres no way I could say for sure but it is definatly a difference. One hell of a whistle but I decided to leave it anyway. I didnt want to lose the extra power and other than the whistle it sounds great on a hard acceleration. As far as price I paid 230 for it on ebay with free shipping.

Absolute Offroad - Joe.. this is what the throttle body looked like.. pics from my car domain
it got smaller on the end.. the hole in the intake manifold is as big as the gasket but the TB got smaller so i made it even through out the hole thing. I did not need a new butterfly since i didnt bore that part. I just made everything even.

its about 1/8 bigger per radius now

mine running stage 2 maps from Cobb does fine with the SPT version.

Intakes are made better now than previously...and some are made leaps and bounds better than others.

about 60k on stage 2 with a form of short ram intake (was K&N, now SPT).
