Interior Dome LED Replacement Bulbs

I would really like to upgrade my interior dome lights to LED. I did it on a Chevy Silverado I had before and IMO made a big difference. Now I know that this has been discussed a lot and there have been some do it successfully and others that run into problems whether it be with lights staying on slightly, flickering or the map lights doing crazy things.

My question is has anyone gotten bulbs that are supposedly rated for our jeeps electrical system (canbus) and they work fine without problems?

Also, has anyone installed the LED package from northridge4x4 and not had any problems?

Here are a couple of website I found:

What is new Can-bus led light ? | Supplier of HID xenon kit,Daytime running lights, xenon headlight,Auto LED light,Parking sensor

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4 Door Canbus LED Dome Light Package 3 Lights | eBay

I have them

I installed them in my 2013 Sahara in April this year. They are awesome. No flickering. The Canbus one is the one in the rear. Map lights remain the same/factory. Huge improvement. I bought mine from superbrightled.com.

I am going to order these from Amazon. They have pretty good reviews on Amazon, and I know a few other members here are using them. I think they are also much cheaper than the Northridge set.

Part numbers

you need (1)578 LED Canbus festoon, and (2)194 LED 15 SMD Wedge bulbs.
They are very bright. Love them, and three friends copied it. I also put them in my 2007 Suburban.

I used the following part numbers from superbrightleds.com:

921-CW12 Cool White
4410-CW9 Cool White

You need two of the 921's for the front dome and one of the 4410 for the rear dome. Be sure to select the color you want if you order from the links.

Initially I bought the bright white however ended up buying red ones which I have in now.

Be creful

Certain years need the canbus. I have the 2013 Sahara and had to order the canbus after the regular festoon made my map lights blink.
Also the 194 LED 15 smd wedge bulbs reflect a lot more light than the previous poster. I had those first . Just saying.

I've read where some put a can bus LED in the rear dome (festoon type bulb) and regular LED bulbs in the middle/front dome.

What about putting can bus LED at both locations?

canbus in the middle

Might just be overkill. Not needed. I was looking for inside pics at night but I don't have them.

I'm confused with compatibility; which bulbs are needed for the can bus JKUs? The 578/4410 style linked above does not say it is for can bus systems. When I search the website, the only can bus compatible 578/4410 style bulb only has 1 led?

^ That is bright. Almost too bright.... ouch...

The CANbus bulb is needed in the rear cargo dome light. If you don't put the right bulb there, or put in a inline resistor of some type, the map lights on the rearview mirror will stay on.

These are the ones I ordered for my 2 door. I had the putcos, and I liked them, but these are brighter. I've got one of the putcos in my reverse light now.

I have a 2014 JKU. Are the map lights in the mirror soldered in or are the replaceable?

. Hmm don't know. I didn't touch those. Note that the cargo area light I got from diode was not can bus friendly so I ordered a new one from superbrightleds. The map I meant is really the dome and the done I referred to are the cargo area. Did not touch mirror lights.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I found out on another thread that the mirror lights are in fact soldered on LED's just like the footwell lighting just for your future info.

the map lights (the ones on the rearview mirror) cannot be replaced - they are soldered on surface mount LED's already..

Do you prefer the red for its being better for night vision or is it aesthetic?
I'm torn between the two...

I ordered these replacement bulbs in Red. When I replaced each bulb to red, the map lights stayed on and flickered. After switching the original bulbs and red bulbs in all different places, I figured out if the dome light on the passenger side is the red bulb the map lights remain on and flicker, if I put the original bulb back in the map lights go off (even though the drivers dome is red and the cargo area is red). I tried this in a friends Jeep today and they worked just fine in her Jeep. I have a Rubicon with the auto headlight function, she has a Sport, this is the only difference I could think of....any ideas of what might be causing this? Also if I pull both dome lights out (originals) the map lights come on and flicker.
