Am I just an idiot? How do you not have the interior lights on when the doors are off on a 2012 jk

You could install a switch. I found it easier to pull the fuse. Should be the number four fuse, it's behind the glove box...not sure on a 2012. Probably not the same as my '04.

No clue on the 12, but on my 11, I don't have a problem with the lights being on with the doors off. I would believe there is something in the door harness that, when disconnected, tells the Jeep to shut off the interior light once cranked. If I hit my unlock button when the doors are off, the light comes on as usual. When I hit the lock button on the remote, the light goes off as usual.

Not sure it's any different from my 2011, but when I disconnect the electrical connection to remove the doors, the interior light does not come on. I have NEVER had to pull a fuse. When in doubt, verify with the owner's manual. I'll verify with my son's '12 today.

I think this is the same on the models from 2007 on.

Unplugging the door harness kills the interior lights in a JK. You don't have to pull a fuse...that's on TJ's, I believe.

Even if unplugging doesn't, on my 2012 keeping the doors open won't leave the lights on indefinitely. They shut off automatically after a fixed period of time. Even if you turn them on by pushing them. This was a bit annoying when I was stuffing polyfill in my soundbar, but also quite nice as my 4 year old likes to push all the light buttons when I'm not looking!

I don't have power windows or locks, that's why I was thinking it was a fuse

Even if you don't have those options, you still have a door harness.
