When looking for my jeep I visited several lots and noticed several wranglers with slightly different options and stuff. I was wondering who decides what options come on various wranglers. Does Chrysler build some and offer them to dealers, or do dealers specify what they want? Just curious cause some wranglers had a different radio or a trailer pkg, tinted windows on some hard tops and some not. Just wondering.

The Fleet Manager is the one who places the orders. I'm not sure that he actually decides WHAT gets ordered though.

Sounds like a dealer near us! I think everything they order has 3.21 gears for some reason (except the Rubicons maybe, though they may be 3.73).

Inventory Mgr orders them unit by unit using package codes and specific colors. Usually, they work in close relationship with the GM and GSM to make sure they have a close pulse on the local market, but it's difficult to predict what option packages and especially colors are going to be popular year to year. The basic colors like black, white, red, and silver are easy and sell year after year, where it gets tricky are the brighter, trendy colors. Typically, in the end of the model year the manufacturer will push units down to the dealerships and the dealers really have little control over what shows up, but in general, they order every single unit, item by item, color by color, that sits on the lot. This is exactly why some dealerships will not dealer trade a unit to another dealer; they have the attitude that they got it right on ordering a specific desirable unit when another dealership missed it....why let the dealership who screwed up get the sale?

I live in Florida and my local dealer usually only has hard tops on the lot. Drives me crazy. Awhile back I went to go look at a soft top Jeep they took on trade and they didn't even have the windows correctly installed in the door surrounds. They pulled out on the test drive lol.
