I did a couple of searches and can't find the thread so I'll post again.

I'm considering buying an iPhone 4S. I've heard of issues with the new IOS 5 and the Uconnect system. Anyone having any issues? I have a 2012 Sport with the 130+SAT stereo and uconnect.

Thanks!

Yes, I have had an issue which is now resolved. I have a 2012 JKU with uconnect and a Verizon iPhone 4s. I was unable to get the phone and car to pair. I kept getting an error message something to the effect of, "Plug in usb mass storage device with the update file." I took the Jeep to the dealer for its first oil change and asked them to pair the phone. They did and reported that there was no issue and that perhaps the problem was "user error". They were pretty condescending when in fact, I believe I had been following the instructions as per the manual. In any case, the iPhone 4S does work with uconnect -perhaps after a bit of fiddling. Call/voice quality after pairing was fine.

just a little FYI, the reason that you were getting that message was because you were holding the Uconnect button too long. It's just a press and release of the button. I know that the manual says "press" but it seems that people don't release the button for the steps to begin.

I'm using an iPhone 4s with my 2012 and 730N. I'm using the latest software 5.01 or whatever it is for the phone. I've only had the phone a few days, but I've paired the phone with the 730N and used the bluetooth with uconnect to have hands-free conversations without a problem. When I plug the phone into the USB port, the NAV screen input changes to AUX. I'm guessing that the radio thinks that I'm going to play some MP3's which I haven't tried yet. I have to change the input back to whatever I was listening too prior to plugging the phone in. I haven't tried updating the 730N phonebook with the new phone because it was updated with my last iPhone.

I'm using it with the 130 in my Arctic. Works great. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised (since I didn't even know this when I bought the Jeep) that the music on my iPhone plays through the stereo using bluetooth. Don't even need to hook it up to the AUX jack. I also can't believe the quality of the speaker phone function. People tell me they can't even tell I'm on speaker phone. (Now, we'll see how bad it is once I get the top off!) :punk:

+1 to the Bluetooth playing my iphone music without even plugging it in. :punk:

The thing to watch is your battery life, since the BT will suck that out quicker than regular "standby" mode. I have an iPhone 4 and it's not that bad a problem, but the complaint du jour with the 4S's is the battery life.

If you keep a USB cord plugged in, you can just keep your phone charged that way. The cord slips out a little hole in the passenger side of the center armrest console so it doesn't get crimped.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, my 730N changes to AUX when I use the USB port with my phone, but I'm using the port to keep my phone charged, not for playing music. I change the radio from AUX to whatever I was using prior to plugging in the phone. The USB allows me to charge my phone instead of using a cigarette lighter adapter.

I haven't attempted to play music through the bluetooth. I use the bluetooth for hands-free calls. It amazes me how the technology has changed the way we listen to music and talk to people.

I tried that, but plugging into the USB was weird. All of a sudden the jeep thought my iPhone was just an iPod. So, instead of plugging into the USB, I use the "regular" plug.

Huh?

How does that work?
Siri is like a computerized butler that answers questions, finds locations on a map for you, recommends eating locations, and automates tasks. You can ask it questions and it will try to give you a respectable answer or you can tell it to do things like send a text message after you tell it what text to send. I haven't tried it in the Jeep, but it would be interesting to see if it works.

Yes I know what Siri is, I have the 4S
Interested to know how it would work with U-connect :D

It works, but using the Jeep microphone decreases the accuracy of the voice command through Siri. However, I did this post with my jeep microphone, and it worked first try with 100% accuracy!
Nice to know that it does work in the Jeep. After you told Siri what to do, did you take your eyes off the road to look at the phone when you confirmed that it worked? :hide:

A couple of things here:
1) Uconnect uses the USB as the priority player. Meaning that if you have the phone paired and are streaming audio from it and then plug it into the USB connector, the streaming audio stops and the USB connector takes over. Now this is true if you are using the IPhone as your audio device.his can be a good thing because it will keep the battery charged as well as you get a direct audio feed which means better quality of sound.
2) If you have the IPhone paired up but also have an Ipod plugged in, THEN you can go into devices and choose which device that you want to play from.
3) Siri will currently work from 2011 early built 2012 vehicles (prior to Oct 2012 I believe). This is an issue with Apple and how they are simulating a phone call to your voice mail and are looking into it.

My wife just got a 2012 Sahara JKU with the 130 stock radio and uConnect. She is having trouble using Siri. She presses the home button on the iPhone, Siri flashes quickly and then goes back to home. I have to give it a try with my phone when I get home but I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem.

You are correct, SIRI works on the 2010 & 2011 vehicles. There is an issue with how Apple is trying to call your voice mail to simulate a phone call. This is how Uconnect knows to shut down the radio and send the call thru the radio.
The phone has to send a supported bluetooth profile to Uconnect in order for this to work. Apple is aware of this issue and are working with the supplier of the Uconnect system that support the REQ, RES RHB, & RBZ radios.

Siri works on my 2010 JKUR. Not very accurately though as previously posted.

Although, after the first time I used Siri my mini nav map no longer works. Instead of the nav map I see a picture of what looks like a dragon. Tapping the picture no longer brings up the full map. If I press the nav button and then choose map, it works fine. Very odd.

This is true, on the early built 2012 vehicles the SIRI will work fine however if you have a mid year build after October 20th 2011, the SIRI doesn't work correct. I believe that Apple simulates a call to your voice mail in order to run SIRI thru the Bluetooth system. They used a BT address that was on the 1st Gen 2012 module but that address is different on the later 2012 modules. Apple should have got with Uconnect (and other hands free car kit companies) to validate it before the release. Now they have to figure out a different way for it to work over the BT.
Chrysler isn't the only one that SIRI is having problems with, if you look you will see that Ford, GM & others are also having problems.

iPhone 4 and basic 2012 radio here. Works perfectly. No problems whatsoever.

Streaming music runs and sounds great with my 4S and 430 RHB. The only "problem" I've had is that the unit doesn't want to play my iphone when connected via USB in the console. It has no problem reading and playing my iPod, but it just stalls forever "reading device" when I plug the iPhone i.

I work around it by using the front USB port for power and streaming music via BT, but that means I have a cable hanging down on the front of my jeep (my phone rides in a Proclip mount on the dash). The upside to this is that I can still use the phone controls to run apps, navigate playlists, etc., and other things that you either can't do or are slower working through the 430.
