iPod USB not recognized by 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Just bought a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited...and WOW. First Jeep. Not going to be my last. This vehicle is awesome. I already love it.

The only problem thus far. My iPod is only a couple years old, but the sound system is not recognizing it. It's plugged in via USB and the system doesn't show it.

Any advice?

I came to this forum to ask this very same question.

My sister just got her sahara ultimate last week, and when I plugged in my 120 gb ipod classic, the headunit has no problem recognizing and controlling the ipod. Later, she plugged in her second generation ipod nano and it didn't sync up. The ipod indicates that its being charged but no audio came through.

I recommended that she update the firmware for the ipod, but that was no help.

Do the stock touch screen headunits recognize older ipods?

Thanks for any and all help!

Yeah, my Nano is 2nd gen and it just charges too. They do have a list of compatible iPods on the Uconnect website, but it seems to be pretty random.

And I don't believe the iPod Classic is listed, but good to hear it works. I may just buy a new one.

I also use portable HD's. You can just plug them into the USB port and roll.

Weird.
My new Sport didn't come with a USB, so I plug my iPod Classic into the AUX on the front of the radio. Works fine, but doesn't charge the iPod.

hey coach, You say that you dont have a USB connector in the gloveboox for the uconnect, I would say that you have a dealer installed unit, is this correct. If your not sure, look at the mic (near the drivers visor). IS it a flush mount or is it raised and mounted with 2 sided tape. If it is raised, then the dealer sells an optional cable to plug into the module and the uconnect module will be below the glove box. Remove the glove box and you should see it wire tied to the dash.
The reason why you can plug the ipod into the "AUX" input and have it work with no problems is because you are just using the headphone audio output jack. Using the ipod cable will allow you to control the ipod thru the radio controls and also charge the ipod.
You will want to do the Uconnect SW update that has been being discussed here on the forum depending on the build date of the Jeep.

Dandy36, You say that you did the update and it didn't help. A couple questions okay:
1) your ipod is a 2nd gen nano, when you plug it in, is there any error messages?
2) The update is mostly for the itouch & iphones so I don't think it will help the nano. HAve you by chance tried any touch ipods?

The classics all work fine with hte Uconnect system. I have the 80 gig and have tested the 120 gig also.

Hello, which USB connector are you plugging into? If it's the one on the face of the radio, this USB connector will not work with the ipods, only flash drives. You need to use the connector that is inside the glove box.
If you are using the one in the glove box, is there an error message that comes up on the radio? Have you done the Uconnect SW update that has been discussed on this forum?
