Is factory chipped ignition key add-on possible?

I have a 2010 Rubicon with everything basic (no power windows, etc.). However, I would like to have a factory chipped key, if that is possible. I am not quite sure if this is what they call "immobilizer" or not, but basically it's a system when PCM a chip on the key with an RFID transiever. My wife's car has a system like that. So the question is, did anyone try something like this?

If you have 2 keys you can buy a third and program it yourself. there are directions. basically put in one key, go to acc, then 2nd key go to acc and third key boom should be programed. I would check the forum for directions though they might be in the manual

All new rigs pretty much come with the chipped key. Gray plastic head (no buttons) or a black fob ( up to 3 buttons). I do not think your Rubicon would come without one or the other. Get a copy of your build sheet, it should tell you if you have a sentry key or not.

That is great to hear, but the question is, could I retrofit one into a 2010? I understand that I should call a dealership, but I hoped to hear from someone with the experience.

BTW, I added the factory Bluetooth unit myself. It was a rather expensive mistake, because the installation by the dealer is required anyway, and it's not much cheaper than buying _and_ installing. I'm definitely going to submit to tender mercy of the dealer now, just need to come prepared.

Another important thing I wanted to learn is how the factory chipped key works, e.g. if it has a battery inside and what radio band is used.

The module goes around the ignition switch. It's called a SKREEM a believe. It is possible to bre added on. The chipped keys have a small battery. THe buttoned keys have a serviceable battery. No idea on the frequency used.
