Hey I'm a new member and I was wondering if it is a bad idea to go mudding with my top off. I have a 2011 unlimited hardtop if that matters..any input helps! Thanks
That depends on how you feel about having mud all over the inside of your Jeep. If you mud with the top off, your wheels will sling mud up and it will end up everywhere. On your seats, on the bars, on your dash, inside your speaker covers.... EVERYWHERE.
I prefer to have the top and doors off because I like being able to see around the jeep better. But it's a PITA to clean for sure.
I would say yes. lol! The inside will get filthy. Sure it can be cleaned but it will be a royal pita! But if you do hit the mud topless, be sure to post pics. Hehe.
The problem is that often you go out for trails and rocks and still encounter a little mud. And even just a little mud can cause problems if your Jeep is naked. Just a little mud in the tire treads will get slung up and get on everything... seats, bars, seat belts, dash, ect...
Did it the other day with the top off..... And the doors. Big mistake. Thankfully could have been much worse. 3k miles, loaded sahara (white with tan leather). Spiderweb shade saved me I think. Won't be doing it again. Spent every bit of 6 hours yesterday. And it WASN'T as bad as it could have been.
LOL, Just part of owning a JEEP. I've always referred to my Jeeps over the years as "She" did this or "SHE" did that or I took "HER" thru...... SO.... Naked and Dirty..... Like my Jeeps the same way. Top off, Doors and side out.
Muddin with my Duratracs and top down was a blast but the cleanup the next day was anything but. Mud is still being found months later. Once I can justify taking the carpet out and rinsing it I know it will be fun. A 2013 J/K still has some seasoning to do to it before I don't care as much.
Its a bunch of pine needles but the mud is in little specks everywhere.
Are we talking muddy trails or straight up mud bogs? Mud bogs I wouldn't do personally and I would totally keep the doors and top on for bogs if I were to partake.
But if it's just a muddy trail, it's a Jeep, go have fun! I still have mud on my dash from last year!! With the factory top I'd wheel all the time with the doors on but all the windows out/rolled down. Sure mud gets in the back but when it dries on the carpet it just sucks up with the vacuum.
Sure, it can be done. But that don't make it a good fawkin' idea. Post up pics of your interior coated in mud,and then lie about all the "fun" you had cleaning it up.
The inital wash I recommend those coin wash car washes. Inside and chassis. Nevermind the looks from fellow car washers. Then at home begins the detail work. Will take an entire Saturday and 12pack to finish. Good times.
Ask me how much fun I had cleaning it up. (the answer is no fun)
