Is it hard to find a 2012?

I stopped by a Jeep dealer yesterday to look at colors in person. I am about 2 weeks away from pulling the trigger and I wanted to get an up close look.

All that they had were a few unlimiteds in black. When the vulture came out to annoy me, he was having trouble answering any of my questions. He slowly led me to the finance guy.
The finance guy said that Jeep pulled all orders about a month ago, and no one can get a wrangler right now. He pulled up the wranglers on his computer and couldn't even find anything that was due to be delivered in the near future.

Is everyone having trouble getting a 2012?

Maybe there are some shortages regionally but here in WV and VA which we are just one state away from where they are produced in Ohio, we have plenty. Most dealers have 25-35 of them on the lot in every color and combination.

The dealers in my area (WI) have been pushing the '11's lately...trying to move em off their lots, I suspect, before re-stocking. I keep getting e-mails about their '11 deals, even though I'm picking up my '12 Monday.

If that had been the case at my dealer, I wouldn't be getting mine tomorrow. There have been dozens of posts in the last month from folks who ordered '12's, are waiting for them, just picked them up...Look elsewhere.

We are in Colorado and there are quite a few 2012's out here- more Unlimited's than the 2-door, and yes for some reason a lot of them are Black- I would say 50% out here. If you go through the Jeep website, you can check the inventory at all the dealers in your area, including they will have the actual window sticker, so you can see the colors and options, etc. Good luck!

The dealer that you visited could have easily offered to find the Jeep that you want thru a dealer trade. IMO there was no need to have you speak to the finance guy regarding their inventory unless he also happens to work in sales and acquisition. Based upon what you are telling us I'd find another dealer. However you may want to try speaking with the sales mgr. if you truly want to do business with them, or you can simply find another dealer that wants to earn your business (my recommendation). While you may have to drive or make several phone calls your chances are typically going to be better if you shop around. I'd also recommend that you join Tread Lightly to get 1% below invoice pricing. This save the whole "how much can you afford" nonsense that most sales people hit you with.

Your dealer is trying to screw you. Just like John Denver, he's full of $h*¥

Shop around. Lots of '12s out there

I couldn't agree more. I don't plan to do business with them. The sales vulture didn't know the answer to any of my questions, and didn't even know if there were any other jeeps on the lot.

There is a lot that is closer that has a '12 Rubi in Deep Cherry for $33K. It has 111 miles on it. It must be loaded because it is more expensive than the other Rubi's.

I plan to join Tread Lightly. It will take the guess work out.
Thanks for your opinion.

I have been to three dealers up in the GTA (Canada Toronto area) and all of them have a few unlimiteds, fully loaded and maybe 1 base sport 2dr manual. All have been either black white or silver.

It's really disappointing. I think those are the safest bets to sell though so dealers keep them on the lots.
I would really like a 2dr auto to test drive though, I have visited all the dealers within 45 minutes of my house and still nothing.

Must be Harry Reed's fault.

I just checked my dealer here on the SouthCoast of MA. He has 12 12 Sport's a couple of Rubis and I didn;t evel look at the JKU's.

Red, Yellow, Orange, Black, Blue, Silver, White and Black 6 spd's & Autos. Saw an Orange 6 spd Sport Top with the same goodies I have for about the same price I paid.........BUT.....no Sahara Tan and that was EXACTLY what I wanted so....... no butt kick.

I suspect your dealer is not a very informed one.......or like I said, Harry Reed screwed that up too!

The dealer I used has the 2012 models in a back lot and 2011 models out front. I figured out how to get into the back lot and look around after I saw they had gotten a 2012 back in August. As soon as they got a JKU, I called about test driving - they seemed shocked I knew it was on the lot. I told them I saw it on their website! (They had just gotten it the day before I went in to test drive it.)

So, I haven't answered your question, but I think some dealers are trying to get rid of the 2011 models before they mention having any 2012's on their lots.

A dealer near where I work has quite a few 2012's out front -- think it was 6 the other day. They wouldn't even discuss the 2012 with me when I went in there back in August, so they didn't earn my business.

in Winnipeg Canada I counted less than 12 across all our dealerships. Most are out of 2011 stock too. And the colors of these in stock units are black or white, sorry but grow some balls dealers and order some colors.

I ordered Sep 7, my unit a JKU in Dozer is sitting in a train car in Ohio , she must be cold and lonely right now.

Good luck on your hunt.

Most dealers order basic colors for their stock...black,white,silver,red... If you want another color you likely have to search or order. Also most order Sports. I read somewhere that the production is over 60% four door models. Around here there are some Saharas and Rubicons but they usually get them loaded with expensive options I didn't want to pay for....$2000 radio/GPS, etc.

So, IMO, your best bet is to order what you want and wait. Find a dlr that will work with you. Does not sound like the one you went to is willing to do that.
