Just an observation in the greater Charlotte NC area but I see more 4 drs than 2 drs around here. Not sure if it's just a skewed perception or a fact. I kicked around the idea of a 4 dr but couldn't justify it as I have no kids and at 49 don't plan on any. My lifestyle doesn't require it so I opted for the 2dr, no regrets. It's all about needs more than anything else I guess.

Just slap some fiberglass and resin on your soft top!

Yeah seeing more and more 4 doors around here too, but it will be interesting to see if that trend keeps up, or if the sale of them starts to drop off for whatever reason. I notice quite a few used ones at the dealerships, that don't appear to have been abused.

The ratio of JKU vs. JK on Quantico is roughly even. I suspect that it has more to do with the fact that enlisted Marines can it afford the JKUs. That said, I know of a few that could afford a JKU, but went with the JK.

I went in initially with ordering the JKU in mind. Following seat time in both, and an honest assessment of requirements vs. "desirements" I ordered a JK. The driving dynamics of the shorter wheelbase completely won me over. Basically, I can affordibly find a material solution that would solve the stowage problem (and since I don't have my JK yet, I do not even know if the stowage is even a real problem), but no amount of mods to a JKU will ever make it drive like a JK.

I am in the same boat, and oddly enough, in the Charlotte area as well.

I see tons of four doors as well, but I just don't need the space either. I am 40 and we are not having kids. We have three Dachsunds. I took the back seat out of my JK and it's perfect for the dogs, shopping, whatever.

As far as finding a hard top for a two door JK, I don't see that many of them for sale either. Probably just not as many of them. Of course I wasn't going to get a hard top originally, but I bought off the lot and it had dual tops, so I have both. Having both now, I don't think I would get rid of my hard top unless I moved to Florida or somewhere I would just never use it. I have it on right now and it's just nicer to have it on in the winter in my opinion. Plus it is quieter on the highway, etc.

With the hardtop on and no back seat there is a lot of storage area in a JK...it's just the rear bar across my soft top that makes it impossible to throw big stuff in there without unzipping and moving it...

I can't remember the automotive industry magazine I was reading, but it stated that Unlimiteds make up 60% of Wrangler sales.

I see mostly 2 doors by me mainly because theres a lot of older jeeps about. The 4 doors are either bone stock or monsters whereas the 2 doors seem to be all mod flavored.

thats pretty much how i feel... i really like the 4 doors modded but stock i'm not crazy about it...kinda bus like, sorta H3 looking...
don't know if i can bring myself to drop $35,000 on a jeep then another $5,000 to make it look cool...
plus i'm looking at getting one for work where i gotta go off road for short periods then travel miles to the next site
Pretty sure a lifted JKU with 33s will be killing me on gas mileage

I bought a new 2013 JKU and all I ever see are jk's because I wanted a JK and went against my heart and went with my head and got the jku, now every time I see a jk I think what might have been lol. don't get me wrong I love my jku but man I wish I would have listened to my inner voice and got the jk.

I have to agree. I love my JKUR you see in my avatar but stock especially in sport trim which has even smaller tires than the stock Rubi, looks aweful.

Ok,how about with the doors off. I think 2drs look awesome with the doors off and the 4dr looks like ass with the doors off.

Sometimes I look at the lines of a 4dr and wonder if that is what a model T would look like if it was made today.

Wait a minute... I have a JKUR

And this is where the thread ends up. From looking for a hard top to how to make a JKU look presentable. Sigh…...

As a GySgt in the Marines, I can tell you that I have owned a JKU on Sergeant pay, a 2nd car payment, along with a mortgage and your typical utilities. I doubt that being enlisted had much to do with not being able to afford a JKU.

As a LCpl back in 1983 I tried to get a loan for a CJ-5 Renegade and the bank said no way. Perhaps it was my 19 years of age or the $300 monthly pay but I can laugh about it now. Even when I was a MSgt near retirement I'd see Cpl's sporting $30K vehicles, not sure how they did it but I figured one payment on there's was equivalent to my entire months pay back in 83, times change for sure.

I've seen Lt's making less than some junior enlisted Marines especially the ones paying back student loans.

I believe it is actually 60/40 4drs to 2drs. Let's just say the arrival of the 4dr has kept Jeep still making the 2dr for the true Jeep enthusiast

Well... if I didn't need the room and towing capacity of a JKU, I would have my TJ back rather than a JK. So...

I saw a blurb on the internet a while back stating JK production is 60% Unlimiteds and 40% 2 Door. Not sure if the statement is accurate or not.

These threads always crack me up because it is as if that concept is too difficult for many to understand.

Without the 4 door (and all of the mall crawlers and soccer moms who drive them ), there is a decent chance that the 2 door would be:

a) Built in Mexico
or
b) A lot more expensive
or
c) No longer made at all
