Is it possible to improve headlights on a budget?

I have read so many headlight reviews that my eyes are bleeding.

I don't want to put a ton of cheese into my headlights, but I really need to get rid of the junk that came oem and get something better.

I was hoping to see some photos on the reviews of the Delta H4 to see the light pattern. I think Morris is asking $121 which isn't bad, but is it a decent improvement?

In other words. Can anyone recommend a decent headlight for around $100

I'm in the same boat and I have actually been looking at these out on Quadratec which run right under $100. KC HiLites Performance 7" Round Headlight Kit. I would love to have something like TruckLites but they are just out of my price range at the moment.

Bump

Let me know. I thought the stock lights were ok until I added my KC lights by the windshield. If you have the KC lights on for a minute or two going back to headlights only is like driving in the dark. I would also like some upgrade in headlights.

The lowest cost DOT legal replacement head lamps come from www.rallylights.com

About $250 with wiring harness from SMS. Hella lenses w/H-4 bulbs. SMS can recommend the bulbs.

After riding my KLR all summer the lights on the JK are incredible. Honestly I dont think they are that bad. I keep thinking I want to be like all the other cool kids and get aftermarket lights but I keep telling myself they are not that bad. With my fog lights on I am reasonably satisfied with them but without the fog lights it is weak. No they dont compare to my wifes new Ram but they are good enough to not spend $500 upgrading. If someone can find a worthwhile upgrade for $100 then Im in.

You won't get decent headlights for $100 and don't waste your money on the Delta H4s.

Yes, don't buy Delta lights. They are known to leak.

I have the ARB IPF headlight H4 conversion kit. 4wd.com has the kit ARB920HJKK for $176. I didn't like the bulbs and replaced them with Sylvania Xtra Vision. I've had them for over a year now and they work great. Much better light then the factory junk. ARB also has great customer service.

Is this the one that you are talking about? Plus bulbs?
IPF Round 7 Inch H4 Headlamp Inserts (920H)

Edit:
Never mind,,, I found the "kit" that you mentioned.
Now that brings up another question. If the housings are $35 each, we are looking at $70 ish. and you said you didn't like the bulbs, so tack on the cost of replacement bulbs.
It sounds like the pig tail only comes with the kit, and it is pricy. Why? It's just a pig tail.
What am am I missing?

Slight improvement would be the Sylvania H13ST

Next step up would be the IPF or Delta

Save your pennies and get them retro-fitted with projectors and HID's. I'm not LEO, but I know and train with quite a few. So long as they are adjust properly you most likely won't get haggled about them. Using projectors with proper cut-off is key though.

Actually the Phillips H13 9008 Xtreme 80 is a much better bulb then the Sylvania for a simple H13 bulb replacement

^^^Yes, that's the budget solution!! It'll take the lights from "terrible" to "OK". You won't be blown away with improvement but it'll buy you some much needed safety and give you time to decide if it's good enough for you.

the Hella H4 upgrade kit is $247.68 and compared to other choices (just bulb upgrades) it is the best bang for the buck.

I can't believe nobody has posted this yet.....

Do yourself a favor and read this: Headlight Shootout - JeepForum.com

The Rallylights option is great, I ended up going with the Cibie lenses. Incredible results.

Yeah, IMO, the Cibie and harness upgrade is the best bang for the buck!
