So as I approach the delivery / pick up date of my JKU, I am beginning to wonder about rebates. I requested a brochure but haven't received anything yet.
My dealer said they sell me the JKU for $300 off of invoice. I tried negotiating a $500 lower price using an offer from a dealer almost 800 miles away but he said they won't chase deals into holdback.
Now I am wondering if the following hypothetical scenario is possible.
Hypothetically, Let's say as of Dec 1st Jeep makes available a $500 rebate which the dealer does not inform me of. Would it be possible for the dealer to claim the rebate but not inform me of it effectively cheating me of said $500?
Is there anything I can look for in the contract to make sure I am not being cheated of any rebates?
The can't claim it without forging your signature. I can't see why they would risk it, as it comes from the manufacturer and does not affect them in any way.
Rebates are clearly indicated on the sales agreement. They are applied after tax. Any dealer discounts are applied before tax and are reflected in pre-tax purchase price.
But the dealers advertised or verbal sales price will likely include all possible rebates.
Because I would have to pay approx $600 to ship it down to me or take two days off work, fly up to the dealership and drive it home which would amount to approx $320 ($150 flight, 120 in fuel, $50 hotel) not including lost wages at work because I can't use vacation time without 30 days written notice.
So all told, it is financially cheaper to just order from the local dealer which would be servicing my Jeep (while under warranty) anyways.

That settled, a 2017 Wrangler at anything under invoice seems like a pretty good deal. Considering you're working next door, it might not be a bad idea to buy from them. I'm more pessimistic when it comes to people's actions than most but I don't imagine they'd try shenanigans, if that's what you're concerned about, for a customer who is next door every day. If It were me, I'd take the really good deal right next door to work, take advantage of the convenience of the transaction, and never give it another thought.
There are never rebates on Wranglers. If you are talking Golden Ticket, barely anyone gets those. I don't think you need to worry about this situation.
However to answer your question, yes sketchy dealerships can screw you out of the rebate. I had a dealership claim there were no rebates on Cherokees and argue it up and down. They told me it was military only and associates only. I called other dealerships around the area they said the rebates were for everyone as did Jeep customer care, even showed them on Jeep.com. I saw on yelp other people complaining about the same issue with this dealership. Basically they charge you a price then get the rebate incentive from jeep so it's like they sold the jeep for more.
I also worked a killer deal on a Chevy Silverado like 10 years ago on a technicality. Bought it for well under what the dealership paid. Months later I started getting paperwork in the mail from Chevy in regards to S&S Plumbing and S&S Construction. My fleet needs etc. SS are my intitials. The dealership told Chevy I owned businesses and planned on ordering fleet vehicles for my company qualifying them to get the vehicle's for a reduced price. This made me qualify for rebates I wasn't qualified for and the dealership to get a kick back on the vehicle.
Two totally different spectrums from these two dealers but they can play the system.

There is more than one dealer in the Vegas area. If you don't have a little confidence in the dealer, I would go to the next one.
And dealers try to do a ton of things that most would consider shady.
Yeah, I know there are more dealers. There are 5 in the greater LV area. 8 within 100 miles of me (Now I REALLY wish I had searched that beforehand, Stupid Stupid).
It's not that I dont have any confidence in my dealer. They were willing to work with me on my deposit and it is a matter of convenience that they are right across the street from my dealership. So when I turn in my current car, I can walk across the street and pick up my Jeep. I know, not a good reason to buy from someone. But it helps. LOL.
I dont have any experience with purchasing from a dealership as an "unrelated" consumer. My last 3 purchases have all been from the dealership at which I worked. So I was just wondering if this was within the realm of possibilities.
Last deal we got on a Jeep was the 05 Grand Cherokee, was a demo. They wouldn't give us the $500 veterans discount on the 2016 JK. So any discount is a deal.
Complain too much and they will bury you out in the desert:blackeye
