Maybe im crazy but it seems like every model after 2008 even Xs are priced at near 20,000 if they have less than 30,000 or so miles. For you pros is this because they are coming with stuff usually like lift, tires or systems? I feel like some are real basic but price the same.
Is this value retention or just you have to know and have to haggle? this is the first car i am getting (1st car from when i was 16 just got destroyed) so i am definitely inexperienced.
it also seems like i can just get a new x for what sum of these used ones are going for. any help is really appreciated! FYI im also in houston so maybe its just regional economics? here is another listing that i am looking at. i feel like a sucker...
Before I bought my new jeep, I had been looking at used. Having done this, I am convinced that used jeeps do retain their value better than passenger cars. I kept seeing over and over again the price of an older jeep compared to a car of the same age which both when new were the same price, the jeep was always substantially higher priced as a used vehicle. Yes, I'm convinced that they retain their value. Another thing is that it seems very difficult to get a decent deal from a dealer. You may have to begin searching for private owners selling their own car at a decent price. Obviously there are risks in the private sale. The person may be hiding the fact that there is a defect that would make a difference in the price had it be known, etc. The sunday paper and craigs list may turn up some surprising deals. That method will cost you time and the expense of running around to check out individual jeeps. I guess that is the trade-off.

Have you been to the Stealership and haggled with them to see how low you can get a new one? That'd be a good place to start. From what I've seen, you're really not saving much buying used . . . so why bother . . . chances are you'll be able to get better financing on a new one anyway, so with some of these prices you might actually save by buying a new one . . . don't forget to factor in the warranty and new car smell. I just heard a commercial yesterday and the new X was starting at 20K.
Bite the hand that feeds you . . . you've had more than enough to eat already.
NOT a good deal! I've been looking at used vs. new, there are tons of these '07-'08 Wranglers and they're all for about same price 19-20k. You can get a new '09 for just over 20k (and maybe less)!! As far as used, look hard enough and you'll find one with less miles on it for less $$.
