Don't know what to call these but they're not much of a step on my 2012 Wrangler Sport I bought yesterday but I'm wanting to know if it is stock on a Wrangler Sport. If not they must be an optional item huh?

Those are the OEM running boards. They are not standard on a Sport model. They are an option though (I think $495) or can be purchased on eBay or Craigslist, etc. When I had my 2 door I found a pair on CL and paid $100. They were practically brand new.

Yes, they are the stock Sahara side steps. I believe they come standard on Sport with the S Package.

Actually, it is one of the many side steps out there I've found to work the best for that specific intended purpose --i.e., stepping in.

A lot of people take these off to add Rock Sliders or Steps so you might find a set on Craigslist cheap or even free. If you decide to go with an aftermarket step, you can find those pretty inexpensively as well and of course you'd have both sides to match.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you see some steps you like and I'll get you a quote!

If it's just a matter of replacing the passenger side one, I would just look on craigs list or start calling junk yards. There are jillions of those out there...

Alternately, I would just take them both off. I don't remember my TJ sport (no lift kit) having them, and I never missed them.

Like others have said. Check Craigslist. I am not crazy about the stock step/running board but needed something cheap to help my wife and daughter get into the Jeep after a 2.5 lift and 35's.

I hopped on craigslist. A few hours and $100 later I had a like new set on my Jeep.

I got a pair off of craigslist for $100. Not sure why and now they just sit in the corner of my garage.

And while I understand your statement about going with OEM when you can, for side steps, the aftermarket is full of upgrades that are much better in build, quality and protection. A lesson I learned a long time ago was that with a Jeep, you upgrade, not replace.

OP:
my 08 Sahara had them as stock item for the model.

They didn't work for steps, as they were too close to body to get in using them.

Didn't work to get out, as they were too wide to step over & always marred my pant leg.

Plastic=no protection from anything significant.

They do keep road rash off the rear quarter fender....but so do mud flaps.

Save you money for something more useful. While I like running boards on many rigs I've had over the last 50 years, Wrangler doesn't benefit much from this design IMHO.
