Is this normal?

I doubt this is normal since i haven't heard this when i bought it. The jeep is still practically brand new, 2010 with 15000km. It has a manual transmission. Whenever i get into 3rd,4th,5th,6th gear and bring the rpms over 3500, let off the throttle, it makes a whistling/whining noise, once the noise is there, it doesn't matter if i'm on or off the gas. The noise stops once you press the clutch in. I brought the jeep in and they ended up taking the transmission out. They said they replaced a bearing, but the noise is still there, i brought it in again, and the guy told me that it was the softtop and that he fixed it by removing some bump stops, but that guy must be on crack, cause when you press the clutch in, the noise goes away till you release it. Anyone know what could be causing this? This noise is driving me nutz.

I've heard of Pilot Bearings making the noise you describe, but this problem has me scratching my head. A Throw Out Bearing makes noise when you step on the clutch and stops when you take your foot off. I'd have someone else look at it. Can you locate where the sound is coming from. W/O hearing it, it's a tough call. I thinking a bad Pilot Bearing. What bearing did they claim to have changed?

I've read a couple of the threads here on pilot and throwout bearings, and it does sound as though it may be one of these, but -
"i brought it in again, and the guy told me that it was the softtop and that he fixed it by removing some bump stops" - Huh?
It definitely sounds like this guy is guessing - to go from replacing a transmission bearing to removing bump stops for the soft top seems worlds away from each other! How about if they check the windshield for pinholes?(!) ... Is this a dealer or a local shop? I take my Jeep to a dealership for all work, but I specify the one mech (their senior / lead mech in the shop and a real Jeep enthusiast) to do all of my work. I have to work around his schedule, but don't care. If it's a local shop, I'd find another one. You may have to travel a bit, but it will be well worth it to alleviate that pain you feel when you go there.

There are TSB's for earlier JK's on throw out bearing squeals. Not sure if they corrected the problem for the later years.

i bring it to the jeep dealership. The first mechanic knew what i was talking about and he knew that it had to do with the clutch. I was told that the mechanic was in toronto and that someone else was gonna have a look at it. I guess i'll just have to bring it back in, when the other mechanic gets back.
