This is the rear differential on my 13 rubicon. It has 100 miles on it. Is this rust normal?

Yes it is.
Clean it, sand it and then clean it again... Then lastly, paint it.

Yea, they don't paint them worth a crap. If the whole center section is flaking/rusting crazy, thats when you have to worry if its overheating.

It's kinda sad when you pay that much money for a vehicle and it has rust on it. I do realize it isn't that big of a deal, just aggravating I guess

Hey I'm in middle tennessee also. What dealer did you buy yours from? I am ordering a 2014 JKU soon. That really sucks about the rust

Plenty of rust under mine as well. I try to stay after it. I'll need to start hitting "Cs" and touching up the remainder soon. It's a tough thing for a guy that cares about his equipment to see - but, unless I'm willing to take the Jeep apart and refinish/paint it like it needs to be done, all I can really do is just keep touching it up.

I got it in Franklin at the dodge jeep fiat dealer. I won't blame it on them, they had no control over something like that. I had a pleasant experience at the dealership overall. I got my other jeep here in Columbia and they gave me free oil changes and maintenance for 3 years. Franklin didn't do that.

Yeah I have been to the Franklin dealer, but I am in contact with the dealer in columbia, gallatin and franklin. I am ordering mine because I want the half doors so I am trying to find out who will give me the best deal. The free oil changes and maintenance sure is nice. I had the dealer in Gallatin offer my the lifetime powertrain warranty on a 2013 model. Not sure if I will be able to get that deal on a 2014, but that sure would be nice.

From what I've heard it's mostly cast parts and rust doesn't affect the strength. Mines all rusted out too but a nice coat of dirt makes it invisible

Mine's got 250 miles on it. Will be climbing under with a few cans of rustoleum once I get it back from hellbent performance with the lift and new parts installed.
