Is this normal?

Hey guys,
I was rotating my tires today and noticed a plastic piece on the front axle that looks suspicious. It is the black piece in the center of the photo between the u-joint and the axle. It looks like it should be pressed in to seal the axle. It is the same on both sides of the jeep. Anyone know if this is normal? Only 6k miles. By the way, rotating 35" tires is a pain in the butt.

Perfectly normal, that's a dust and dirt shield to keep it out of your axle tube.

Thanks Barrie,

I just thought it wouldn't have a gap if it is supposed to keep dirt out.

There not the best. The aftermarket has some real good ones, but they are pricey.

If you are running 35s, as you said, you should consider adding c-gussets before they bend.
