Is this wrong?

I have a 2012 JKUR supposedly being delivered and ready for pick up next week. The first time my wife sees it, it will already have an AEV 2.5 lift, 33x12.5.15 Duratracs on some MB TKO's, Bestop HighRock High Access front Bumper, Smittybilt XRC rear bumper and a Bestop Trektop NX on it. I won't be 'disclosing' any of the add ons to her. I feel a little dirty about it, but otherwise I would be stuck with all stock for a while. Hoping the forum can be my moral compass and let me know that this is ok, although it will be done regardless. After all, you can always get a new wife, but your Jeep is here to stay...

Just tell the wife that's how you ordered it! it's a special package that the dealer threw in!

Exactly. Hopefully she likes all of the add ons. You're doing it unless she doesn't like it, then you will have to un-do it.

Put a nice ring, louie Vitton purse or a Gucci bag in the Jeep so when she looks inside it will be there waiting for her...problem solved and you won't be sleeping on the couch!

Could backfire on him.....She might like it too much! Then it will be a daily struggle of who gets the keys fastest gets to drive it.

Of course, this would eventually mean that he got another new Jeep with even better stuff!

See, I just brought my wife (and 8 yo son) into the loop the day we drove her home!! My wife LOVES this Jeep! Of course she is not going to give up her DD Lexus..and that's o.k. She has to wear suits to work and look like a million bucks.

However....I'm waiting for her now and she is going to jump into the front seat and we're wheeling our way over to pickup our son from school then head out for some dinner!

Seriously....ask her to be a part of it. Tell her this is a "family hobby" for all of you to enjoy. Don't go too beserk with the MODs out of the gate...but have fun!!!

Maybe this is too logical but... if you are still in the budget with the mods then you can tell her whatever you want.

If you went over budget with the mods... well...

I wonder if this approach has anything to do with the divorce rate being over 50%

When I had a wife, I had to stretch the truth about MTB bikes and accessories. So yeah maybe that does answer the 50% divorce rate.

New frame cost $2,000? Nope. "Couple hundred".

Now the girlfriend who was with me at the acquisition of the new Jeep asks "When is your new stereo going to be finished so we can cruise?" or "love the new light bar".

I guess it depends on the woman.

I say just wait until she sees it, chances are she will love it.

I got lucky, I just picke d up a new JK for my wife, the one she picked out was already lifted on 35's by the dealer and my wife is all for adding on the mods .

I think she is just excited I will be focused on her Jeep for a while instead of my mustang. But little does she know, I like the JK just as much .

If you're going to feel guilty about it, you might as well go ahead and also tell her where your porn stash is, and when you scope out other women, or the truth about how many women you really slept with before getting married, etc. etc.

If you're going to do it regardless, what difference does it make whether or not forum members agree with you? You already made up your mind and voted for the opportunity to upset the one you supposedly love.

Honesty is the best policy.

The only argument in your favor, though, is that you now can spread the cost of those mods over a span of years, assuming you can afford the added monthly expense to begin with.

Lesse', my wife got the $4000 engagement and wedding ring she wanted, the 165 gallon fish tank, and she drives my convertible. I get the jeep. She has nooooo reason to complain. Besides, if I die she says she's keeping the jeep and the car can go to one of the kids...preferably one of the nice ones.

I won't tell if you don't. But I'm not the one having to explain it either. Good luck with that.

Same here.

Sometimes I try just purchasing something and asking for forgiveness later, but it always seems to backfire on me. Now I just start talking about my next mod with the wife 2-4 weeks before I plan to purchase so she'll be good and used to the idea before it happens.

Apparently the smiley was lost on you. The thread was tongue and cheek, not serious by any means. Added monthly expense, lmao, not here...

You're right, it was! I interpreted the smiley to mean it really didn't matter if it affected your wife and/or relationship. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

There are too many self-centered "me first" people out there. Glad you're not one of them.
