Jeep 2012 Engine Squeak Help !!!

Okay I have a new 2012 4 door Jeep Wrangler Sahara everything stock.

The dealership has tired 5 times now to fix this annoying eninge squeak that I have had for past 6 months. In gear our out of gear, moving or stopped it squeaks but if you press on the gas it goes away if you let off the gas it comes back. So when idling and stopped is when you notice it most or in a parking garage etc etc...

1st time they told me there nothing wrong like I was lying...
2nd time they say they have replaced the belts ensured they are aligned properly with the right tension...
3rd time don't know why but the replaced the alternator...
4th time they replaced the throw our bearing.... and damn thing still squeaks.
5th time don't know they still have my Jeep at the dealership and its been 10 days! I'm pissed, fix it already.

The annoying part is its intermittent doesn't happen but about 50% of the time. Like it you hear it squeaking let it run for about 30 minutes then it goes away then at some point it comes back and so on...

I was almost thinking it had something to do with altitude or temperature like the conditions had to be right for it to squeak but I'm not a mechanic.

If there is a way to post I have two 1 minute videos I can post so you can hear the squeaking noise. but you can go to my facebook page... yes Im confused as to if the noise is on the drivers side and or the passengers side but it definately in the front of the vehicle.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yep it's past lemon law time. Also, it looks like the dealer is just cashing in from Chrysler off your warranty replacing all of those things. I mean they probably would like to fix it but in the end the more things they keep fixing just puts cash in there pockets from Chrysler.

The lemon law in NM is 1 year for new vehicles so Ive still got until Oct if needed.
The dealer called today and said its fixed and will be returning it tomorrow morning, (well see). I'm kinda excited like a little kid in a candy store LOL.

Ill get the invoice tomorrow on what they did over the last 2+ weeks, all I remember is I think they used an automotive stethoscope to find the squeak. not sure if anyone is interested Ill post specifics in a few days.

FYI If it still squeaks once I get it back it might be a good idea not to be around me. *SNAP*

To lemon a vehicle is a long process so I would start now.

Lynn (Jeep HQ),
Its still not completely fixed.... its now been months total days they have worked this is about 18 days. Can you just give me a new no squeaky Jeep all Tan(fenders & Top) 4 door Sahara fully loaded with leather, hard top and soft top with 18" black factory rims and while your at it add a 2" lift kit, snorkel, off road light bar, winch and towing package please, its least you can do for all this aggravation. I really want mine but am convinced it wont get fixed anytime soon or ever and the lemon law in NM is about to run out.

sent this to Lithia dealership this morning....

Albert,
Jeep was returned Wed the 17th morning and was not squeaking when it was dropped off, it was fine all morning. I got in my jeep after work Wed about 5:30pm and no sooner I started it up it started to squeak as before.... However it stopped after driving for about 15 minutes and has not come back today.

Again on Thu the 18th no squeak when leaving for work about 6:00am however again when I left work about 4:30 as soon as I started it up it started to squeak again but the same thing happened, after about 15 minutes of driving it went away and did not come back today.

This morning Fri 19th it started to squeak as soon as I started it around 8am but again it went away after about 15 minutes of driving as so far today has not come back.

I'm baffled and not sure what to do at this point. this is a pattern that is repeating over the past few days.

Thanks
Brad

Mine does the same thing. It's intermittent so is tough to diagnose, but I've narrowed it down to one of the pulleys on the passenger side of the engine. I think ...

It really could only be the belt, pulleys, alternator, or, the throttle body itself has been known to have this type of sound in some JK's. It will interesting to hear the result, hopefully.

In 2002 I leased a Jaguar X-type. It was the biggest POS I've ever had. It was in the shop more than it was with me. I finally spoke with some upper management person at the dealership and he was a total butt munch, so I told him that I will sit on the street in front of their dealership with a big sign that says that they sell lemons. 10 minutes later, if that, the Pres of Jaguar USA called me and asked what can he do to fix this problem, and since Jaguar was trying to fix their bad rep for reliability problems, he would do whatever I wanted. I told him that I wanted an XK8 at the same price as the X-type, and if I didn't get it I would stand in front of the dealer every day with the sign. So for the next 36 months, I drove a 2002 convertible XK8. I'm not usually an ass, but they pushed me over my limit.

Having the exact same issue with my 2012 2DR. Intermittent squeak coming from the engine, becoming more frequent.....took it to two dealerships here in Vegas, one had no ideas, the other said they are seeing more and more of this. They said its the pulleys or tensioner, and it will get worse until it throws a bearing.
While I was there I got the double whammy.......the famous Pentastar tick coming on, very noticeable with the hood lifted and engine cover removed.

I am having the same engine noise. It happens when the engine idles, driving or not driving. Mine is a 2012 unlimited sport automatic. Has 2k miles on it. Has been doing it since I bought it. I havent taken it in yet, I was hoping to find out if anyone knew what is was before I took it in. Has anyone found out!?

I've got a rather maddening little squeak that comes & goes on my 08JK.

This noise is from the front sway bar bushings that have no lube fitting.

Sometimes it responds to squirting stuff down the bar/bushing margin, which may or may not stop it. Once my local front end shop took the brackets off and lubes the whole deal with high grade moly lube. That lasted 3 miles, then it was noisier for about 3 days, then it was quiet for a couple weeks. Then it started again.

This squeak is worse in the heat.

We lubed it last week with squirt lube. It's 80% quieter this week.

Other than being annoying, it's sort of humorous. Our 1945 CJ2 had a not dissimilar squeak when the shock bushings dried out.

This squeak is definately from the engine. You touch the throttle and it stops. The engine idles and it squeaks. Really annoying with the windows down and it echoing off parked cars and curbs. Drive throughs are very aggravating. Lol

Stay tuned folks Ill do my best to keep everyone informed I'm in contact with JEEP HQ and will point them to this posting as this is not just my jeep issue its more wide spread than maybe they think.

Also Mine is to the point where if it sits for several hours allowing the engine to cool or something in there. when I start it up it squeaks but after about 10-15 minutes after the engine or something in there warms up it stops and wont come back until it cools down again.

I think it's funny they boroscoped your engine for this. That's a 30k piece of equipment if that gives u an idea of what kinda bill they sent to chrysler for that. And I doubt they really even did it.

Awaiting reply for HQ heres part of what I sent...

Lynn,
I'm sending this to Albert as I have not heard from him since Thursday, he might be away again. Please check in with him Im starting to get the feeling I'm getting any further help form the dealership or JEEP HQ. Please do something about this NOW. Go up the food chain and report this.

This past weekends report
Sat Sun & Monday (Today) squeak still occurs.
Some interesting news I drove from Los Alamos to Roswell for a Jeep trip and because it was so blasted hot in Roswell it didn't squeak as much or I didn't notice it, anyways I start thinking...

Maybe when something cools down below a certain temp like when the vehicle sits for several hours and then it is started up it squeaks, then that something stops squeaking after about 15 minutes because that something heats up to a certain temp. Also the squeak stays away until the temp goes down again.

Its a repeatable pattern I can reproduce over and over and over again.

PLEASE GO HERE this problem is not just me there are more people out there dealing with this problem!

Were all thinking the same thing it sounds like its something with the belts, alignment, tensioner pulleys or pulley bearings. Idler pulley or something, press on the gas it goes away let off the gas it comes back. For the record we are just guessing and going off what other jeep customers and friends say especially when listening to the videos I created.

Also check to see what they did the last 2 weeks they had my JEEP, I still have no report from the dealership, I was promised a report and compensation but have got nothing.

I'm posting part of this email in the forum and sending this to Albert and hopefully someone JEEP will finally just admit and do something about this.

Thanks
Brad

Capper5016 I'm not a mechanic and yes I keep mentioning those types of things... belts, alignment, tensioner pulleys or pulley bearings, Idler pulley. I have no proof they replaced anything any other than a belt, it was left in the floor board of my jeep when I got it back. hopefully HQ will read this and force them to check / change the pulleys. Do you know which two? Im championing this thread in hopes of finding a solution and passing it along to corporate, the dealerships, everyone...

Also getting a squeak here on my 2010. Brought it to my mechanic today and he used a stethoscope to listen to it and said its coming from the water pump. Even though its under warranty I wont bring it to the dealer because I cant stand dealing with them and don't trust them.

Well if they're not having any problems with the penstar in other vehicles like this, it makes me think it has to do with the alternator.

Jeep relocated the alternator on the penstar to the top of the motor in order to use it. They had to do something to keep it from getting wet when wheeling.

I think I read something about it being relocated to the top back of the motor. If that was the case it would need a couple extra pulleys and stuff to make it work. I havent taken my cover off the engine yet to look so I'm not sure.

Brad, as I posted I took my Jeep in last Friday and was told it was definitely the pulleys or tensioner. They told me to bring my Jeep in on Monday, and that it would be an easy 2-3 day fix. Called me on Thursday and told me the squeak was gone, issue was fixed.....didnt even make it out of the parking lot before the squeak came back...exactly how it was when I first brought it in.
Told me to bring it in at 6am and it would be fixed, was probably the alternator. Sat at the dealership 3.5 hrs and its still not fixed. Dealership said its been elevated to Chrysler tech's Star Level.....whatever the fuck that is. I just know that I'm getting ready for a week in Yellowstone and Montana fishing, and this friggin thing better get fixed.

As to my issue, it doesnt start squeaking until the engine heats up, then is intermittent, but it goes away when I hit the accelerator. Its definitely coming from the engine compartment, but if the pulleys are all new, I'm starting to think its some sort of intake leak.

Lastly, Chrysler was Johnny on the spot the first couple days, but hasnt called or emailed to follow up as promised....and hasnt returned emails or phone calls.

What you've described sounds exactly like the squeak im getting. My mechanic thinks its coming from the water pump. I haven't brought it to him to be fixed yet but the sound does seem to be coming from the pulleys until you listen to it with a stethoscope. Please keep us update on what they tell you next, I would be interested to know what it ends up being.
