I visited a Jeep dealer in Peoria IL while with family and it was a horrible experience. I arrived on the lot and had 3-4 sales people basically push each other out of the way to speak with me. The sales guy approaches me and couldn't tell me anything about the Jeep other than it was indeed a Jeep! I looked at my wife and we both laughed and left.

A few days later, I came to this forum and learned about Pat at Field's Jeep in Northfield IL. I saw on the Field's website that a 2013 black JKUR was coming in, so I kept my eye on it. Once it arrived, I exchanged a few emails with Pat, and spoke with him on the phone a few times. Pat and the staff at Field's are EXCELLENT. I drove 3 hours to pick up the Jeep from Pat and am glad I did. Outstanding customer service to say the least. I also got free lunch......FREE LUNCH! You can't go wrong

Upon my arrival and entry into the showroom, I was greeted by the manager, followed up by the salesman who looked me up and down and said to me, "Uh...okay, what can I NOT sell you today?" His condescending and judgmental attitude got worse by the minute as time went on.

I guess nobody bothered to mention to the little sleazebag about how you don't judge people by what they're wearing when you're in the sales business. Apparently wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt qualified me as some broke stiff just spending time at dealerships to waste peoples' time...

BTW, after I made the purchase, I was sure to send both, the manager and him a photo of me standing with my new Jeep I purchased elsewhere.
I had a different experience there. I went on a slow day and was helped by a young sales guy. Wish I could remember his name. He was new and lived in WV. He knew less about wranglers than I did, but that is expected. We took one out for a test drive and he said that since it's a slow day, let's take it for a real ride. We put about 30 miles on it on back roads.

We eventually came back inside and I told him that i was not ready to buy that day...and he was cool with it and just asked me to keep him in mind.

He also introduced me to the sales manager...who did have sort of a wry sense of humor. The sales manager also gave me grief for how old my wrangler was...saying guys who hang on to vehicles as long as I do make it tough for him to stay in business. He was joking of course, but his tone could be interpreted a lot of ways...and like most sales managers, he probably knows that if you don't buy today you probably won't buy from him.

Not making excuses for him, but at the end of the day, I'm not looking for a friend. I am looking for a deal.

BTW, I started watching their JKR inventory some time ago and looked at it again last night, and their stuff is not moving that quickly. Not quickly enough to be a jerk to potential customers...so perhaps they need to rethink their strategy. Thumbs up for that WV sales guy though. He was cool.

BTW, I ended up pulling the trigger at Safford in Fredericksburg several weeks later. They started the price conversation at $1000 under invoice. I might have been able to do as well close to home, but I didn't want to custom order...and they had JKRs with all of the options that I wanted, including 4.10 rear.

Last night I sent an email with specs to several dealerships within about 150 miles of my location (upstate SC). This morning I received replies to about 50% of the emails I sent out already. From the emails they seem very eager to help me and most said “don’t expect emails from the other dealers as the Wranglers are in demand, yada yada.” Be that as it may I got some good leads on where I can purchase my Wrangler with the lowest price and the least bs. So while some don't respond I just said screw em and they didn't want my business and since there are plenty out there that will do business over email I guess my experience is a little different than the OPs. Oh and as far as phone calls I didn't give them my phone number. I figure who I choose can have my phone number and unless you can deal professionally with me over email then you don't deserve my business.

Thanks Pat for the quick responses. You and your team are definitely different than the responses I've gotten from my local dealerships. I'll continue to speak with Brian and see where we end up.

Much appreciated.

Everyone, thanks for the feedback and moral support.

I've had a great experience so far with the internet approach. The dealer responded quickly with a quote for what I wanted, I went in and they spent an hour with a test drive and answering questions. Then they put the order in for me at a great price. It was all handled professionally. Now I'm just waiting for my Rubi to go into production.

But a number of the dealers either do not have internet sales or don't seem very eager. Also there seems to be limited inventory of "loaded" Rubicons. My advice is to just keep trying until you find an eager dealer. The only make money when they sell a car and there's no limit to cars. So they are stupid if they don't work with you.

I shopped for months in the greater Philadelphia area. Issues at every dealership, you name it. Half of them even tried to get me to drive vehicles I had zero interest in. Gary Barbera's #1 dodge Chrysler Jeep land quoted me a price (which I felt was too high) and when I went back a month later had raised the price of that same 2009 JKR to 30k! It had 40k mile on the clock, and some rust issues that were covered with diamond plate! They must hate money.
I ended up buying my JKUR from a Toyota dealership. They had it listed for a more than fair price, found me a better deal on financing two days after I bought it, and were just generally awesome all the way around- even lent me a creeper from the shop to get under it comfortably!

Maybe it's just my location, but I get the feeling no one has this thing my parents hammered into my thick skull when I was a kid- work ethic.

Makes me want to move to the woods and spend all my time with my jeeps- they have great work ethics.

Just bought my first Jeep over the weekend.

Went through USAA's car buying service and it was painless. Got employee pricing on a 2012 Unlimited, they knocked .25 off the APR and free oil changes for 2 years.
