Jeep had a...moment

So I'm about to start off from a stop about 2 days after getting my brand new 2012 JK. I'm new to the Jeep still so I stall it (yeah, yeah I've been driving standard all my life but there's a learning curve with a new vehicle and all) Anyways I start her up again, no drama or anything, at least that's what I thought. The fuel gauge drops to empty and the low fuel warning light comes on. "That can't be right, I still have half a tank," I said to myself. Within 30 secs. the fuel gauge was back up to where it was supposed to be. Haven't had it happen again 1500 miles later, but I figured it'd be interesting to see if anybody else's Jeep does that. Didn't think much of it until now. What's up with that? Did restarting the engine somehow confuse the computer?

Sorry, can't help with any input on the mechanical but I can say don't feel bad about stalling the Jeep. I had just stopped at the red light in front of work, soon after I got the new JK, and a really pretty women pulls up beside me in another JK. We stare at each other for a moment, she nods her head slowly and the light turns green. I stall the jeep and she busts out laughing and drives off. Yup.

I haven't had it happen to mine - but i will say that I have stalled out more than I would like in this car (5x in 3 weeks). I even stalled it in reverse

The same thing happened to me a few months ago in my 2012 sport, at first I was freaking out cause of the wasted gas but it shot back up again like you said. Haven't had a problem with anything since

Worse part is when the person behind you honks their horn.

"ya a******* I purposely bucked forward a foot and stopped dead in the middle of the road "

Grrrrrrrrrrr that makes me mad. Once I slammed on the brakes again once I got going. Give them a reason to honk this time

I've stalled it and so has my hubs, although we never had any kind of surprise happen when we did. Hope it's nothing major!

OK thanks everyone for the replies. I guess I'll just ignore it unless it does it again. More confusing than anything else, never seen a vehicle do that but maybe it's just the Jeep's way of keeping things interesting And yes, I can relate to the poster's point about stalling in reverse...I mean really, reverse? Luckily after a couple of days of driving around in the Jeep it becomes almost second nature. Really fun vehicle to drive.

Thanks all for the mid morning laugh!

My jeep is an auto but my trans am before was a 6 speed. I put a cam in it so it wasnt always the friendliest thing to drive. The funniest stall in that car wasnt by me but my buddy who was new to a stick. He drove 2 hours before he finally stalled it. Less than 5 mins from home he catches a light and looks over at the car pulling up next to us, very pretty girl driving. He looks at me and just says "aw sh*t". Well sure enough he does the ole give it to much gas, btw this car was loud as balls, and then pops the clutch. Tires chirp, car launches forward then nose dives and stalls. The girl drives by laughing as well as me with the cars behind us honking.

This is my second straight shift so its nothing overly new.
I didn't stall it on the test drive, but I stalled it intermittently during the first two months of ownership (particularly in reverse). I've been doing pretty good this month.
Karma says I will now stall on my way home.

I was test driving a manual before I got mine, because I thought I'd rather have the manual, and asked the salesman to take me to a hill somewhere so I can test out the hill assist thing (we have a pretty steep slope on our street and our driveway, living on the side of a hill and all...). Stalled it twice.

We bought the automatic

I stalled an automatic Ford crossover doing an off-camber K-turn once... Didn't stop all the way between reverse and drive, and apparently the torque converter was stiff enough to stall it out. I sat there for a good 20 seconds just thinking "...really?"
