Hello all- this is my 2nd thread, please forgive any noob mistakes..

Have been looking at buying my first Jeep Wrangler product after a long and ugly divorce from Land Rover older models (she was high maintenance, expensive, and worked better as a boat anchor). Went to Jeep online and built four models for my needs and decided the Hard Rock Rubicon was actually the optimal choice for what I wanted in the Jeep + a few nice amenities that are thrown in that was cheaper than modding it out myself.

When I drove in to Tysons Jeep last night was told as of yesterday you can no longer order the Hard Rock Rubicon. From what I was told by dealer, they are hoping to have the final limited edition Recon in January, maybe February. Contacted Jeep corporate who confirmed it is finished and told me to look at the 2013 Jeep Recon concept vehicle as an example for the new Recon. As a noob I know the veterans on here have more experience dealing with Jeep misinformation/information- I'm guessing we won't know much about the Recon until they actually release it.

While the concept looks great, for my needs that would be over the top as the 4" lift is too much for me to handle but probably more exciting for the rock-crawlers out there. I'm guessing if the concept is true, its not going to be cheap either. Selfishly I hope its more like a red rock; even a hard rock with a new name.

So do any of you have any more information on the Recon that might be helpful? I'm going to hold onto my deposit and give it a month to see how the Recon plays out. If it doesn't, I'll probably be very happy with a Rubicon and spend a little more to add my own bumpers, wheels, etc.. or I could open up another can of worms and say I want to wait on the JL :beerme:

The latest rumors is that there might be a small number of HR's available in tomorrow's new allocation.

Its not the "final limited edition". The content of that, hasn't been disclosed yet.

Selfishly I hope its more like a red rock; even a hard rock with a new name.
Given its HR-like price target, I would not waste any hope that it will be like the Red Rock in content and features.

So do any of you have any more information on the Recon that might be helpful?
Have you read thru the http://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/rubicon-recon-edition-1402026.html thread here?

Here is a teaser pic from that tread, that is turning out to be more tease than fact.

That teaser pic has what looks like the HR bumper (just in gray?), but a reliable source is saying the Recon will not have the HR bumper.

It will have the HR hood, but with a black decal in the middle (kind of like the Red Rock's).

The sides of the hood will say "Recon" and not "Rubicon".

The "Jeep" on the grill will gain a red high-light shadow.

The black interior will feature red stitching and red seat belts.

Though, any of this, can change in a blink of an eye.

WaltA- thank you; very helpful information:

-I'll check into trying to put my name on the additional hard rock short list when and if it becomes available.
-Thank you for the clarification on the final limited edition.
-If the Recon is anything like the Hard Rock that would be fantastic.
-Will review your link to the other thread.

Blue Baby Sound- appreciate the welcome.

Looking forward to any additional info..

if you are set on a hard rock, there should be plenty on dealership lots, you can search inventory in Jeep SUVs & Crossovers - Official Jeep Site
Now, if you can wait, there is always satisfaction on ordering exactly how you want it configured...

Thanks new to jeep and volfan615 and Whiskey Ranger.

new to jeep- good news is that they are taking 4-6% off invoice if I order the Recon or Rubicon when they are available- that is why I want to order it. Its also much more difficult to get' a manual with the options I want. I did look around, but will wait for the right one.

volfan615- as we are in the same boat; another part to this equation I failed to mention is that I want to keep everything installed by dealer if I decide to keep (and get a long term warranty). I'm also anxiously awaiting the JL. The way I look at it, getting a Rubicon or Limited edition keeps most of its value so if I want to trade two years from now, it wont cost much more to do. In the meantime I can still enjoy it until I decide if its a long term 200k+ keeper.

That is another appeal of the Hard Rock- for a newb like me (but one who has used diff-locks in other vehicles) I can learn the vehicle and gain some experience with it before I rush into modding it into something I don't need.
I'm looking for it to be more of an overland than a rock crawler.

Hey there, welcome to the club. Tyson's Jeep will give you 7% below invoice if you mention the "forum" deal. The deal is actually from another forum and some folks around here get testy when you mention it, so I won't. But I think if you search for Koons you'll find it. If not, PM me. Good luck!

The other differences will include the following;

1. Not available in white, but available in high performance anti-black

2. Keychain material changed from leatherette to "pleather"

3. Mopar enhanced rock rails upgraded to "super-duper enhanced"

4. Tires to be filled with upsidasium (dealer installed, $100 extra) or a mix of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% trace gasses ($200 extra)

5. Preliminary testing suggests Recon stickers will increase h.p. by 12%

6. 1 year complimentary subscription to the quadratec catalog.

One Man's "cosmetic" is another's "functional". I bought a HR because it came with "stuff" I would have done. Steel Bumpers, a True Heat reduction Hood (after minor Mod), Enhanced side rock rails, better stereo, etc.

When my HR arrived it had things that came standard that I liked and was glad it was there since I hadn't specified it in my order. Anyway - the HR's are nice rigs.
I'm sure the Recon will be as well.

Nice editions- are those real? I was hoping for a hybrid sticker as well- that should add at least 2 mpg from what I have been told.

The problem with the upsidasium is that I've been told the tires explode if you refill them with anything but more upsidasium after airing them down. I couldn't locate an upsidasium dealer on google maps.

I've also been told that replacing synthetic cable on the winch with para cord saves weight and adds to the fuel economy. The cable comes with a lifetime warranty.

A complimentary subscription to quadratec is a great bonus- my subscription cost me $50/yr already.

You forgot to mention a wireless light bar- its held on to the front bumper with velcro and is super-adjustable.

All fun aside I liked your pics RubiconSS. What beach is that on? I'm located in a high-saline environment near the water- one concern about the steel bumpers for the HR I had was rust. I was hoping to do some camping along Assateague beach with the new rig. Pronghorn makes a seemingly nice aluminum reinforced bumper but the last aluminum bumper I had I bent all to pieces.

The Hard Rock ended up being cheaper than an unlimited sport with by the time I upgraded the suspension, bumpers, etc- and it is all stock for warranty issues which was a major plus. Not sure how the leather will hold up for me, but sitting in it felt more comfortable for long trips than the sport model. Nice looking rigs..

OBX. I love Assateague as well. (Check out the Fluid Film sticky) One advantage to OEM (IMO) is the warranty and backing by Jeep for the parts and labor. Not much to worry about with the Bumpers, nicely done.
Leather is nice and holds up well. I use a UV blocker on them beginning of summer. Other than that for a "close to done" out of the box a HR or the like is a good way to go. Still plenty to do to personalize after that....
Good luck.

Hi, been a lurker for quite awhile but only created an account within the past few weeks. I will have many dumb questions along the way, so I might as well get started .... last Friday I ordered a '17 Rubicon HR edition, my dealer indicated that they were currently on constraint until the end of Dec., however, they never mentioned that HR production would be finished. Is there any reason to believe that my order will not be produced?

It is more likely to NOT be produced. As I said up above, there will be a small number available in tomorrow's allocation.

However, you'll know soon thereafter. If you don't get into that one, last, allocation, your dealer should tell you.

Though, there could always be a dealer-stock HR, that is close enough to what you want, that you could buy instead.

mjp70- I'm guessing you are fine. It was only Monday that they stopped allowing new orders for the Rubicon Hard Rock.. and that was news to the dealer as he had several people (including me) lined up to place an order.

It might be wise though to check in on the status of your order with them and let them know your concern. I'll be interested to know if you hear anything new.

I'm not that concerned- and I don't have an order- I think there will be more available. It might not be the "hard rock" but its probably going to be a "hard rock" with mostly different decals.

I can't thank everyone enough. Back in the day I bought my first land rover due to the support and community. How things change.. Wish I had been introduced to Jeep a long time ago.

Milous- thank you for your update and information. Greatly appreciated. Was told you are a legend..

I'm sitting tight for news on when I can order the Recon; have deposit ready to go as soon as I hear from the dealer. Test drove the Rubicon manual vs sport. Being stock, loved the gearing/setup on the Rubicon. Looking forward to seeing Recon materialize and what it offers that isn't limited to decals.

Talked to my dealer where I put deposit on the order - confirmed they can't order any HR's anymore. They will be refunding my deposit.

I searched and found (50 miles away) a white HR very close to how my order was (plus hardtop and nav) and negotiated a 2% below invoice price (my order was 3% below).

This worked out - still get what I want and don't have to wait...hoping to go pick her up tomorrow night.
